Abstract

This study aims to analyze the function of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in realizing charactereducation at SD Panca Budi Medan. The PAI curriculum has a strategic position because it not only transfers religiousknowledge but also shapes students' personality and noble character. This research used a descriptive qualitativeapproach with a case-study design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with theprincipal, PAI teachers, homeroom teachers, and students, as well as documentation of curriculum instruments andlearning activities. The findings show that the PAI curriculum at SD Panca Budi Medan performs three main functions: anintegrative function that embeds character values into objectives, content, methods, and evaluation; an operativefunction that translates the vision of noble character into daily worship habituation, structured religious activities, andCharacter Camp (Kemah Akhlak); and an evaluative function that continuously assesses students' character developmentthrough various instruments. The curriculum is implemented through a thematic-integrative approach emphasizinghabituation and exemplary conduct (uswah). Supporting factors include the foundation's commitment, teacherprofessionalism, parental support, and adequate facilities. Inhibiting factors include differences in parents' religiousunderstanding and external environmental influences. The study recommends more measurable evaluation and crosssubject collaboration.
