Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of tourist engagement, cultural contact, and memorable tourism experience on the intention to revisit pilgrimage-based religious tourism, as well as to test the role of religiosity as a moderator variable in the relationship between tourist engagement and revisit intention. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey of 99 students of Ma'arif University Lampung who had participated in a pilgrimage field trip, selected through purposive sampling with the criteria of having direct visit experience. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) assisted by LISREL 8.80. The results showed that tourist engagement had a significant positive effect on revisit intention, while cultural contact and memorable tourism experience were not significant on revisit intention. Religiosity was shown to moderate the relationship between tourist engagement and return intention negatively, indicating that the higher the religiosity of tourists, the weaker the influence of involvement on their intentions. These findings extend the framework of tourist engagement to the context of pilgrimage and provide practical implications for destination managers and educational institutions.
