Abstract

The degradation of environmental resources and aquatic biota is primarily caused by the high intensity of fishing activities and competition among fishing gears, leading fishermen to employ various methods, including the use of environmentally unfriendly fishing gear. Evaluating the impacts of fishing gear operations should address several key issues, such as environmental impacts, effects on resource abundance, fishing gear utilization, and impacts on target fish resources. Assessing the environmental friendliness of fishing gear is an important approach in sustainable fisheries management. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the environmental friendliness level of Purse Seine fishing gear used at PT. Era Samudera Jaya. This objective can be achieved through proper management practices to ensure the sustainability of fishery resources. This study aims to describe the technical specifications of Purse Seine fishing gear landed at PT. Era Samudera Jaya and to determine the environmental friendliness level of Purse Seine fishing gear landed at PT. Era Samudera Jaya based on the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (FAO-CCRF). The data collection method used in this study was random sampling through interviews conducted using questionnaires designed by the researcher and distributed to Purse Seine fishermen operating at PT. Era Samudera Jaya.
