Abstract

This study was motivated by the low understanding of the addition concept among first-grade elementary school students due to conventional learning and limited use of engaging instructional media. This study aims to determine the effect of animated video media on students' understanding of addition in Grade I of SD Negeri 101767 Tembung. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a one group pretest-posttest design involving 18 students as research subjects. Data were collected through written pretest and posttest, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the Paired Samples t-Test. The results showed an increase in students' average scores from 40.00 in the pretest to 65.83 in the posttest, with all students showing improved scores. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed, while the Paired Samples t-Test obtained t(17) = -13.254 with p < 0.001, indicating a significant difference in students' understanding of addition before and after the use of animated video media. It can be concluded that animated video media has a positive and significant effect on improving first-grade elementary students' understanding of addition.
