Abstract

This study aims to analyze the tradition of Mappepaccing Bubung, religious moderation, and its implementation in multicultural education within the Bugis community of Bone, South Sulawesi. The research employed a qualitative method, analyzed through the theories of religious moderation and multicultural education. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary study. Interviews were conducted with religious leaders, community figures, and academics, while the documents analyzed included journal articles, books, and other scholarly literature relevant to the discussion. The findings show that the mappepaccing bubung tradition embodies ecotheological values and functions simultaneously as a mechanism for environmental preservation, a means of strengthening social cohesion, and a cosmological and theological symbol. This tradition is further connected to religious moderation grounded in rahmatan lil alamin, as it embraces the values of justice, balance, harmony, and tolerance. The character of religious moderation also entails respect for differences of opinion and belief, a firm commitment to nationalism free from violence and terrorism, and efforts to accommodate local culture. At the same time, within the context of multicultural education, the mappepaccing bubung tradition is able to integrate cultural values into the curriculum, promoting equality by adapting teaching methods to suit the diverse learning styles of students from various backgrounds.
