Abstract

This research is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of students in IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) learning, caused by the dominance of conventional methods and the lack of innovative learning media. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Quizizz media on the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in IPAS subjects. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 50 students divided into an experimental class (n=25) using the PBL model assisted by Quizizz and a control class (n=25) using conventional learning. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The instrument was a 20-item HOTS-based multiple-choice test. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, paired sample t-test, N-Gain test, and independent sample t-test. The results showed that the improvement in critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class was significantly higher than that of the control class. This finding was reinforced by the independent sample t-test results and an effect size value classified as a large effect. This study concludes that the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Quizizz media has a significant effect on improving students' critical thinking skills in IPAS learning. This research recommends the implementation of this model as an innovative alternative to develop students' higher-order thinking skills in elementary schools.
