Abstract

This study aimed to determine changes in underhand passing skills following the implementation of "ball drop drill" training among students participating in the volleyball extracurricular program at SMA Negeri Tugumulyo. An experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The study sample consisted of 26 students participating in the volleyball extracurricular activity. The ball drop drill training program was administered over 12 sessions. Data collection involved an underhand passing skill test, with assessment based on the accuracy of the ball's trajectory toward the target. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and a paired-sample t-test. The results indicated an improvement in the average underhand passing skill following the training. Both pretest and posttest data were normally distributed, and the paired-sample t-test revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.001). A Cohen’s d effect size of 3.83 demonstrated the magnitude of the skill improvement resulting from the training program. These findings suggest that ball drop drills can be implemented in extracurricular activities as a method for practicing underhand passing techniques. Future research should incorporate a control group and involve a more diverse range of participants to obtain stronger evidence regarding the training's contribution.
