Abstract

Parental involvement plays an important role in shaping children’s learning experiences, particularly during the early years of primary education when learning habits, confidence, and interest are still developing. This study aims to describe the role of parents in supporting the learning interest of second-grade students at SD Negeri 26 Pulau Morotai. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed to explore parental practices, experiences, and interactions within the natural educational context. The study was conducted from May to July 2026, involving parents, teachers, and relevant school personnel as purposively selected informants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate four interconnected forms of parental support: learning assistance at home, emotional encouragement and motivation, provision of learning facilities, and communication and monitoring of students’ learning development. Parental support varied according to family circumstances, available time, resources, and children’s individual learning needs. The study concludes that students’ learning interest is strengthened when academic, emotional, instrumental, and communicative support is provided consistently and responsively. The findings highlight the importance of practical school-family collaboration to sustain children’s engagement and develop positive learning habits within the local educational context.
