Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability is a crucial competency for elementary school students, yet it remains a challenge in mathematics instruction. This study aimed to determine the improvement in students' mathematical problem-solving abilities following the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model supported by local wisdom-based APPINSU media. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted of Grade Va students at SDN Jambean 02, selected via a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through essay-based pretests and posttests and subsequently analyzed using normality tests, paired-sample t-tests, and N-Gain analysis. The results revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, with a sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (< 0.05). Mathematical problem-solving ability improved, yielding an N-Gain score of 0.76 (76.50%), which falls into the high category and is interpreted as effective. Improvements were observed across all indicators; the greatest gain occurred in the first indicator, while the smallest was in the last. Thus, the study group demonstrated improved mathematical problem-solving abilities following the implementation of the CTL model supported by local wisdom-based APPINSU media. These findings indicate that the application of this model and media has the potential to enhance mathematical problem-solving skills. Future research is recommended to utilize a control group or a more robust experimental design to obtain more conclusive evidence regarding the treatment's impact.
