Abstract

The pressure felt by students in their academic life and personal life can affect emotional regulation in both positive and negative ways. This study aims to determine the role of Adverse Childhood Experiences on emotional regulation in students who have a tendency toward self-harm behavior. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational design. Sampling method a purposive sampling method was used, with a total sample size of 77 respondents. Data collection was conducted using the 29-question World Health Organization Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire (WHO ACE-IQ), and the 10-question Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression with JASP 0.95.4.0 (Jeffreys' Amazing Statistics Program) software. The results of this study indicate that ACEs are not associated with and do not have a significant effect on emotional regulation. It is hoped that college students will continue to develop their emotional regulation skills through adaptive emotional regulation strategies.
