Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of "No Viral No Justice" in the context of criminal law enforcement by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Sat Reskrim) of the Barelang Police Department in Batam, Indonesia. The problem arises from the growing influence of social media in accelerating legal processes, where cases gaining viral attention are processed faster than non-viral ones. The aim of this research is to analyze the impact of viralization on the principle of equality before the law in the handling of criminal cases and to assess the effectiveness of law enforcement by Sat Reskrim in managing viral and non-viral cases. Using a qualitative approach, this study combines legal analysis with empirical data from interviews and surveys. Findings indicate that while Sat Reskrim maintains a commitment to fairness and equality in handling cases, public pressure from viral cases significantly affects the speed of legal processing. The study emphasizes the need for reforms to ensure that the legal process remains consistent and independent, regardless of public opinion shaped by social media.
