Abstract

The 11.45-km Simpang Tanah Abang–Galang–Serdang Bedagai Boundary Road, a provincial collector supporting the Trans-Sumatra Highway network, has experienced pavement deterioration. This study identified distress types, assessed road conditions using the Pavement Condition Index (Indeks Kondisi Perkerasan, IKP) and Surface Distress Index (SDI), determined treatments, and mapped conditions and treatment priorities. The survey covered 458 IKP segments at 50-m intervals and 230 SDI segments at 100-m intervals. A total of 843 distress locations were identified across 10 types, dominated by potholes (49.0%) and alligator cracking (20.6%). In the right lane, Poor was the predominant IKP category among distressed segments, comprising 43 segments (18.8%), whereas Fair predominated under SDI (40.9%). In the left lane, the IKP Good category comprised 151 segments, including 120 without distress, while Good predominated under SDI (68.7%). IKP was more sensitive to variations in distress type and severity. ArcGIS mapping showed a concentration of severe distress in the right lane. Reconstruction and structural improvement were prioritized in the right lane, whereas the left lane primarily required routine and periodic maintenance.
