Abstract

Anemia is one of the major nutritional problems commonly experienced by adolescent girls, including athletes, who have higher iron requirements due to physical activity and menstruation. This study aimed to analyze differences in anemia-related knowledge before and after nutrition education and to analyze the relationship between knowledge level and adherence to iron supplementation tablet (TTD) consumption among female adolescent athletes at SMAN 10 Bandung. This experimental study used a one-group pretest-posttest design with three measurements: pretest, posttest 1, and posttest 2. A total of 62 female adolescent athletes were selected using proportionate stratified random sampling based on grade strata X, XI, and XII. The research instruments consisted of knowledge and TTD adherence questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, with validity coefficients of 0.187 and 0.361 and reliability coefficients of 0.735 and 0.668, respectively. Knowledge data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, while the relationship between knowledge level and TTD adherence was analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the proportion of respondents with good knowledge increased from 21.0% at pretest to 87.1% at posttest 1 and 91.9% at posttest 2. There was a significant difference in knowledge between pretest and posttest 1 (p<0.001), whereas no significant difference was found between posttest 1 and posttest 2 (p=0.251). A total of 38 respondents (61.3%) were categorized as adherent to TTD consumption, while 24 respondents (38.7%) were categorized as non-adherent. There was a significant relationship between knowledge level and TTD adherence (p=0.003).
