Abstract

A hedonic lifestyle among university students can drive individuals to prioritize pleasure, personal satisfaction, and the fulfillment of various desires. When expenditure exceeds one's financial capacity, students may turn to online lending services as an alternative source of financing. This condition indicates a link between hedonic lifestyle and online debt behavior. This study aims to examine the relationship between hedonic lifestyle and online debt behavior among university students in Indonesia. The research method used was quantitative with a correlational design. The sampling technique employed non-probability sampling of the purposive sampling type, with a total sample of 160 Indonesian university students who met the research criteria. The measurement instruments consisted of a hedonic lifestyle scale (Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.829, 19 valid items) and an online debt behavior scale (Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.898, 21 valid items). Data were analyzed using Spearman's Rank correlation test. The results showed a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.603, indicating that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. These results show a positive and significant relationship between hedonic lifestyle and online debt behavior among university students in Indonesia: the higher the students' hedonic lifestyle, the higher their online debt behavior, and vice versa.
