Pisang kepok tanjung (Musa paradisiaca L.) is a horticultural commodity that has economic value and good development potential. The availability of quality seeds in sufficient quantities is still one of the obstacles in the development of banana plants. This study aims to determine the effect of the composition of rice straw compost-based planting media on the growth of banana seedlings kepok tanjung covering the age of emergence of shoots, plant height, number of leaves, and the number of shoots, as well as determine the treatment that gives the best response. The study was conducted using a complete randomized design (RAL) , namely the composition of planting media based on rice straw compost, which consisted of four treatments and five replications. The results showed that the composition of the planting media significantly affect the age of shoots and the number of shoots, but no real effect on plant height and number of leaves. P3 treatment (soil : sand : compost =25 kg: 25 kg: 50 kg) resulted in the fastest shoot age, which is 3 mst. The highest number of shoots was obtained in P1 (soil : sand : compost =50 kg: 25 kg: 25 kg), i.e. 12 shoots. The highest plant height descriptively obtained in P2 (40 kg: 20 kg: 40 kg), which is 79 cm, while the highest number of leaves found in P0 and P2, each 3 strands. These results indicate that rice straw compost has the potential to accelerate the initial phase of growth and increase the formation of shoots of banana seedlings kepok tanjung.
