Abstract

This program is implemented in collaboration with Sanggar Seni Teater Kita Makassar, specifically its Visual Arts and Artistic Division, operating within the communities surrounding the Je’ne Berang River and Makassar’s "Lorong Wisata" (Tourism Alley) areas. While the partner possesses experience in interdisciplinary art production and the exploration of local culture, they face challenges regarding artist succession, the strengthening of place identity, the use of art as a medium for ecological communication, and the sustainable management of artworks and digital content. These priority issues are addressed through the development of a "Place Identity Creative" model that integrates visual arts, local narratives, public space activation, flood mitigation education, and the digitization of artworks. The program employs a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach and project-based learning, proceeding through stages of socialization, mapping of potential and needs, training, artwork creation, innovation implementation, mentoring, evaluation, and the formulation of a sustainability strategy. Implementation focuses on enhancing partner capacity in place-based research, creating locality-based art, curation, public space media production, risk communication, and digital portfolio management. Innovative art products developed include ecologically themed murals, creative signage, safe-route maps, QR-story features, audiovisual documentation, and a digital portfolio system linking the artworks to the narratives of the Je’ne Berang River and the Tourism Alley. Mandatory outputs aim to empower the partner, establish a team of production and curation cadres, produce place-identity-based artworks, create documentation and catalogs, and publish scientific articles. Budget realization is aligned with activity milestones and proof of expenditure for the current period; the final realization percentage is determined based on actual financial records rather than estimates. Key challenges involve outdoor site conditions, artwork durability and security, multi-stakeholder coordination, and the need to harmonize artistic processes, mitigation education, and public space activation. The subsequent phase focuses on finalizing the production and installation of the artworks, strengthening digital content, conducting mitigation simulations, evaluating partner achievements, documenting outputs, and reinforcing sustainability systems through capacity building—specifically the development of cadres and the establishment of SOPs for content production, curation, and distribution. Thus, the program positions art not merely as a decorative element, but as a cultural strategy that integrates a sense of place, community creativity, ecological literacy, disaster preparedness, and the development of a community-based arts ecosyst
