Abstract

This study aims to improve color recognition skills in children aged 4-5 years through colored block media at KB Negeri 30 Duri Kepa. Color recognition ability is an important aspect of early childhood cognitive development that needs to be stimulated from an early age. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study was conducted in two cycles with each cycle consisting of 5 meetings involving 10 children (3 boys and 7 girls). Data collection instruments included observation and documentation with five indicators of color recognition ability: pointing to colors, grouping colors, naming colors, distinguishing colors, and matching colors. The results showed a significant improvement in children's color recognition ability from the pre-cycle stage (0% VWB) to Cycle I (10% VWB), and further increased to 90% VWB in Cycle II. This improvement was also evident in the developing (D) indicator reaching 70% in Cycle I and 0% in Cycle II, and developing as expected (DE) reaching 50% in Cycle I and 40% in Cycle II. Colored block media proved effective because it provides concrete and manipulative learning experiences that align with the characteristics of early childhood. This study recommends the use of colored block media as an alternative learning media to improve color recognition skills in early childhood.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the discipline of children aged 4-5 years through reward provision at KBN 30. The study was motivated by the children's low level of discipline, evidenced by a lack of adherence to classroom rules, difficulty following teacher instructions, and a lack of habituation regarding waiting for their turn, tidying up play equipment, and completing learning activities in an orderly manner. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 15 children aged 4-5 years at KBN 30. Data collection techniques included observation, documentation, and field notes, while data analysis was performed using quantitative descriptive methods supported by qualitative descriptive analysis. The results indicate that children's discipline improved from 50.33% in the pre-cycle stage to 69.66% in Cycle I, and further increased to 83% in Cycle II. Thus, reward provision proved effective in improving the discipline of children aged 4-5 years at KBN 30.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the arrangement of the play environment using practical life media can improve independence in children aged 5-6 years at RA An-Nuriyah South Jakarta. This research was motivated by the underdevelopment of children's independence, who still frequently rely on teacher assistance due to a classroom layout that does not support children's independence. The study was conducted using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach with the Kemmis and Taggart model, consisting of two cycles. Each cycle includes four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the arrangement of the environment based on practical life media can improve independence in children aged 5-6 years with pre-cycle results of 49.03%, Cycle I of 59.28%, and Cycle II of 79.28%. It can be concluded that the arrangement of the play environment through practical life media is effective in improving the independence of children aged 5-6 years, resulting in a learning space arranged according to children's needs, so that children take the initiative to tidy up and return items without teacher assistance.
