Abstract

Birds play a crucial ecological role in maintaining forest ecosystem balance. However, environmental changes and anthropogenic pressures can affect bird population density and diversity in a given area. This study aims to identify the population density and diversity of birds in Banten Grand Forest Park. Data collection was conducted on June 22–23, 2024, using the Point Count method at five observation points within the Tahura Banten area. Observations were carried out in the morning (06:00–10:00 WIB) and in the afternoon (15:00–18:00 WIB). Population density was analyzed using the formula D = N/A, while bird diversity was assessed using the Shannon-Wiener Index. The results recorded 95 individual birds, classified into 25 species and 16 families. The Black-capped Babbler (Pellorneum capistratum) and the Common Iora (Aegithina tiphia) were the species with the highest density, reaching 2.55 individuals per hectare. The Shannon-Wiener Index calculation yielded a value of H’ = 3.03, indicating a high level of species diversity in the study area. These findings suggest that Tahura Banten remains an important habitat for various bird species. This study highlights the importance of forest ecosystem conservation in Banten Grand Forest Park to ensure the sustainability of bird populations and biodiversity in the region. Abstract

The Banten Forest Park is the only conservation area in Banten managed by the local government and possesses significant potential for high herpetofaunal diversity. This study aimed to document the diversity and composition of herpetofaunal species within the park. Data were collected using the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method combined with exploratory techniques, conducted from June 22 to 23, 2024. A total of 43 individuals representing nine species, seven genera, six families, and three orders (Squamata, Serpentes, and Anura) were recorded. The Squamata order was the most dominant, comprising the families Agamidae, Gekkonidae, Scincidae, and Varanidae, with Sphenomorphus sanctus and Eutropis multifasciata identified as the most abundant species. All recorded species are categorized as Least Concern by the IUCN and are not listed as protected under Indonesian wildlife regulations. The Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H’ = 1.75) indicates a moderate level of species diversity. The findings collectively demonstrate that the habitat within Banten Forest Park maintains adequate ecological integrity to support a diverse community of reptiles and amphibians, underscoring the importance of conserving habitat heterogeneity in tropical lowland ecosystems.

Abstract

Abstract

Noise is an environmental stress factor that can affect the physiological condition of livestocks. In modern farms, noise sources such as ventilation and automatic equipment can potentially disrupt the health and growth of chickens. This study aimed to examine the effects of noise exposure on the blood profile and weight gain of broiler chicks (Gallus domesticus L.). Fifteen one-week-old male broiler chicks were divided into three treatment groups—control, 85 dB noise, and 100 dB noise—with five chicks per group housed in a single cage. Exposure of noise was given for 30 days. The observed parameters included the number of erythrocyte, leukocyte, heterophile/lymphocyte ratio (H/L), random blood glucose (RBG) levels, and body weight gain. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, followed by Tukey-HSD test (α = 0.05). The results of this study showed that noise exposure significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the number of erythrocyte (control: 3.658, 85dB: 3.136, and 100dB: 2.802 ×10⁶cells/mm³) and RBG levels (control: 191.4, 85 dB: 180.0, and 100 dB: 156.8 mg/dL), but had no significant effect (p > 0.05) on the number of leukocyte (control: 1.620, 85 dB: 1.300, 100 dB: 1.100 ×103cells/mm³) and the H/L ratio (control: 0.087, 85 dB: 0.099, 100 dB: 0.093). Body weight gain in the noise-exposed groups was significantly lower than that in the control group (p < 0.05; control: 399.8, 85dB: 341.8, and 100dB: 312 g). These findings indicate that noise exposure at 85 and 100 dB may have negative effects on physiological conditions and growth.
