Abstract

Traditional houses in Sade Village reflect the culture and history of the Sasak people in Central Lombok. Buildings such as Bale Tani, Bale Lumbung, and Berugak are designed to face the tropical climate and potential earthquakes, using natural materials such as bamboo, wood, clay, and thatch. The construction methods are traditional, without nails, using pegs and ropes, and are built collaboratively by local residents. The purpose of this research is to explore the structure and materials of traditional houses in Sade Village using a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews with community leaders, observations, document collection, and literature reviews. The findings show that each building has unique characteristics that correspond to its social and cultural functions. Bale Tani is a dwelling, Bale Lumbung is used for storing agricultural products, and Berugak is used for social activities. The sustainability of these traditional houses is influenced by the selection of environmentally friendly local materials and inherited construction techniques. These buildings function as residences as well as symbols of the identity, spirituality, and ecological values of the Sasak people. This research is expected to serve as a reference for preserving traditional architecture and developing modern building designs based on local wisdom.
