Abstract

Humanitarian logistics becomes an interesting topic of study in logistic science. Nevertheless, researchers have not paid much attention to cross-country relations in reinforcing the humanitarian logistics. Meanwhile, Van Wassenhove (2006) states that responses from international aid agencies are needed to deal with humanity logistic reinforcement. This paper studies human logistics in relation to global governance, through a case study on the international cooperation between Indonesia and Timor Leste. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. This research used literature study, supported with secondary data from various reports, news on mass media, books, and scientific journals. The author elaborated these data sources and then analyzed and displayed data, and drew conclusion. The result of research shows that Indonesia and Timor Leste has good international cooperative relations in humanity field. This relation is established well through Indonesian Red Cross and Cruz Vermelha de Timor Leste (CVTL). These two neighboring countries have similar disaster typology, and thus need cooperation in disaster management. Further cooperation reinforcement will be needed in humanitarian logistics in these two countries in the future.

Abstract

Community empowerment in waste management is a strategy for creating a clean and sustainable environment. Community-based waste management is expected to have an environmental impact, thereby creating a sustainable environment. This research aims to describe and analyze the environmental impact of community-based waste management through community empowerment in Plosojenar Village, Ponorogo Regency. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection techniques use interviews, observation, documentation, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Triangulation of sources and methods was used to test the validity of the data. Data analysis uses Creswell's qualitative analysis model. The research results show that community-based waste management has the opportunity to encourage environmental impact, by empowering the community through the Maesojenar Compost House. Various programs have been designed, such as: Coconut Fiber Waste Processing Program, Compost Fertilizer Processing Program, and Waste Savings Program. In the future, the sustainability of this program needs to be considered. Apart from that, the use of social media needs to be strengthened to voice issues surrounding waste management, so that it can encourage the creation of good environmental impacts.

Abstract

Indonesia is geographically situated in a disaster-prone region due to its position at the convergence of multiple tectonic plates and its tropical climate, which features both wet and dry seasons. Natural disasters frequently impact areas with vulnerable populations, and such events often exacerbate the existing vulnerabilities within those communities. These vulnerabilities typically arise from unsafe physical environments, limited economic resources, and weak social structures. Internal and external pressures such as underdeveloped local institutions and a lack of essential disaster management skills further contribute to these risks. As part of national development efforts, disaster management policies encompass a continuum of actions taken before, during, and after disasters. In this context, the Batu City Government faces considerable challenges in managing recurring natural hazards. Despite the importance of proactive disaster risk reduction strategies, various implementation barriers persist. One critical aspect that requires improvement is routine disaster mitigation, which aims to reduce potential impacts and increase public awareness. An effective method is conducting regular outreach and education programs covering all disaster phases pre-disaster, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery. However, the local disaster management agency (BPBD) in Batu City infrequently conducts such awareness campaigns. Consequently, when disasters strike, the community often remains unprepared, leading to more severe consequences, financial losses, and even fatalities. To address these issues, it is essential for the Batu City Government to enhance its collaborative efforts with various stakeholders to ensure more robust and inclusive disaster mitigation measures.
