Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of students’ self-acceptance, the implementation of Solution-Focused Brief Counseling, the effect of the approach on improving self-acceptance, and differences in its influence based on gender among students of SMA Negeri 8 Makassar. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest nonequivalent control group model. The population consisted of Grade X students identified as having low self-acceptance, with a sample of 12 students selected randomly and divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through observation and a self-acceptance scale questionnaire, while data analysis was conducted using a t-test. The results showed that students’ self-acceptance before the treatment was in the low category. The implementation of Solution-Focused Brief Counseling through group counseling services was carried out through stages of relationship building, problem identification, goal setting, intervention planning, intervention implementation and evaluation, as well as termination and follow-up. After the treatment, there was a higher increase in self-acceptance in the experimental group compared to the control group. This improvement occurred evenly among male and female students, indicating that the effectiveness of the approach was not influenced by gender differences. These findings indicate that Solution-Focused Brief Counseling is effective in improving students’ self-acceptance and can serve as an alternative guidance and counseling service in schools.
