Abstract

This study is situated within the field of school guidance and counseling, focusing on efforts to improve students’ psychological well-being through narrative counseling intervention. The objectives of this study were to describe students’ psychological well-being before and after the intervention, explain the implementation of narrative counseling techniques, and examine their effect on improving students’ psychological well-being at SMA Negeri 8 Makassar. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design in the form of a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 24 students with low psychological well-being based on Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale, selected through random sampling and divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through preliminary interviews and the psychological well-being scale. The research hypothesis stated that narrative counseling techniques significantly affect the improvement of students’ psychological well-being. The findings revealed that the experimental group showed greater improvement than the control group in self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and personal growth. These findings contribute to the development of school guidance and counseling services and confirm that narrative counseling is an important alternative intervention for enhancing students’ psychological well-being
