Abstract

A broad and deep understanding of Islam in the contemporary context has become increasingly important for promoting tolerance and intercultural harmony around the world. One of the emerging approaches in Islamic studies is inter/multidisciplinary scholarship, which allows the integration of various disciplines to explore this aspect of the religion holistically. This paper discusses the contribution of inter/multidisciplinary Islamic scholarship in strengthening tolerance and intercultural harmony. This approach helps individuals understand Islam in a broader framework, reduce religious prejudice, and promote constructive intercultural dialog. Through these studies, we can better embrace religious diversity and work towards a more inclusive and just society. In addition, inter/multidisciplinary Islamic scholarship has the potential to advance the understanding of how Islam contributes to global peace and the resolution of contemporary issues. In an increasingly connected world, understanding the religion with a holistic approach is an important step in creating a more tolerant and harmonious society.

Abstract

The inter/multidisciplinary understanding of Islam represents a comprehensive and inclusive approach to comprehending the religion in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. This study delves into the nature, objectives, and impacts of this approach, aiming to provide a holistic perspective on how Islam can be understood through the integration of various academic disciplines. The primary objectives of this approach include introducing religious values, enhancing the understanding of social and cultural contexts, and formulating solutions for contemporary issues. The study also seeks to illustrate how an inter/multidisciplinary perspective contributes to promoting intercultural tolerance and fostering deeper critical thinking. This paper employs a literary analysis method, synthesizing insights from disciplines such as social sciences, humanities, economics, and political science to develop a more nuanced understanding of Islam. The analysis draws from a wide range of academic literature and case studies. The findings reveal that an inter/multidisciplinary approach to understanding Islam offers profound insights and broad objectives that extend beyond traditional religious knowledge. This approach enables a comprehensive understanding of Islam within a broader context, addressing contemporary challenges such as social justice, cultural tolerance, and global interconnectedness. The study concludes that an inter/multidisciplinary understanding of Islam is a crucial instrument for individuals to become active agents of change, playing a vital role in shaping a tolerant, just, and harmonious society. This approach is essential for creating inclusive and equitable societies, bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary realities, and building a world that respects diversity, promotes peace, and realizes justice. Therefore, this approach brings extraordinary positive impacts in addressing the challenges of our time.

Abstract

This study investigates the effective strategies employed by the Religious Moderation Center (RMC) at UIN Raden Intan Lampung to foster religious moderation among university members, and assesses the institutional contribution of RMC in cultivating a tolerant and inclusive academic culture. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through interviews, participatory observation, digital surveys, and program documentation. The findings reveal that RMC applies a hybrid communication strategy, combining interpersonal, digital, and institutional approaches. Key programs such as Training of Trainers, the #KampusTanpaBenci digital campaign, and moderation camps have proven effective in enhancing students’ understanding, engagement, and moderate behavior. Survey results indicate significant improvements in students’ perceptions and abilities to produce and identify moderate digital content. The main challenges include internal resistance and digital literacy gaps, addressed through peer-to-peer mentoring and targeted training. This research demonstrates that the RMC model at UIN Raden Intan Lampung can serve as a replicable blueprint for promoting religious moderation in higher education, supporting the development of an inclusive and resilient campus environment in the digital era.
