Abstract

Indonesia has a tropical climate with high levels of sun exposure, which can cause dry skin. This condition can be addressed with cosmetic products containing moisturizing ingredients, such as flavonoids and antioxidants derived from natural sources. Red onion (Allium ascalonicum L.) peel has potential as a moisturizer because it is rich in flavonoids and antioxidants. The extract was formulated into a clay stick—a practical product that helps remove dead skin cells and is easy to wash off. To assess the impact of red onion peel extract on a clay stick formulation, three extract concentrations—8% (F1), 12% (F2), and 16% (F3)—were formulated. The resulting products were then evaluated for their physical properties, formulation stability, and skin-moisturizing activity. Formulations were evaluated for pH, physical properties, moisture, hedonic profile, and irritation using a cycling test. Extract concentration affected pH, viscosity, and spreadability.. Differences in the concentration of the red onion skin ethanol extract also influenced the moisturizing activity on the skin. Formula III (16% extract) showed the highest moisturizing activity. Extract concentration affected viscosity stability after the cycling test, while all formulations met physical stability and skin moisture requirements.
