Abstract

AbstractThis study examines the relationship between the church and the government through the Minahasan cultural philosophy Si Tou Timou Tumou Tou, which means “to live is to humanize others,” as the basis for constructing a contextual political theology. This value is regarded as capable of bridging the church’s spiritual interests and the government’s structural interests within an ethical and theological framework. The purpose of the study is to analyze the role of this philosophy in shaping patterns of interaction between the two institutions and its implications for the development of political theology rooted in local culture. The method employed is a literature study with a critical review of political theology, Minahasan cultural values, and the history of the church in Minahasa in the context of its relationship with the government. The findings indicate that integrating this cultural value strengthens relations, reduces potential conflicts, and shapes a church and government relationship concept that is humanitarian, egalitarian, transformative, and socially relevant.

Abstract

This article aims to formulate a model of pastoral care that is both communicative and transformative in responding to these phenomena, using a qualitative approach based on literature studies. The study combines two theoretical frameworks: Carl Rogers' Person-Centered theory and Howard Clinebell's theory of pastoral functions. Rogers contributes three core relational conditions: congruence, unconditional acceptance, and empathetic understanding as the foundation for the communicative aspect of pastoral care, which is the quality of a safe and trustworthy pastoral presence. Meanwhile, Clinebell contributes five pastoral functions: sustaining, healing, guiding, reconciling, and nurturing as the basis for the transformative dimension, which is the direction and process of restoration towards spiritual growth and personal maturity. The study results indicate that these two frameworks are mutually interdependent. The relational quality of Roger is a prerequisite for Clinebell's pastoral functions to work effectively and be trusted by the counselees, while Clinebell's functions provide direction so that that warm pastoral relationship truly brings real transformation. The output of this research is a conceptual model of pastoral care in the form of a matrix of pastoral functions, relational conditions, and mentoring techniques, differentiated according to types of father absence (substitute father, evil father, memory father, and ghost father). This model can serve as an initial reference for church youth ministry and needs to be tested empirically in further studies.
