Abstract

Waiting time for prescription services is an important indicator of pharmaceutical care because it is associated with service efficiency and patient satisfaction. Extemporaneous prescription services require more complex processing stages, potentially increasing waiting time. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with waiting time for extemporaneous prescription services at the Outpatient Pharmacy of Hermina Bekasi Hospital in 2026. This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 105 extemporaneous prescriptions selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through direct observation and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. The results showed that 59 prescriptions (56.2%) met the waiting-time standard, while 46 prescriptions (43.8%) did not. A total of 52 services (49.5%) involved a high workload, 32 prescriptions (30.5%) contained more than three drug items, and powder preparations were the most common type of extemporaneous prescription (59.0%). The results of the statistical analysis indicated significant associations between staff workload, the number of drug items, and prescription type and waiting time for extemporaneous prescription services (each p=0.001; p<0.05). It was concluded that these three factors were significantly associated with waiting time for extemporaneous prescription services.
