The Paringin Signalized Intersection in Balangan Regency is an important intersection on the Trans-Kalimantan route that accommodates interregional traffic movements between South, East, and Central Kalimantan. Increasing traffic activity at this intersection may affect its operational performance, particularly during peak hours. This study aims to analyze the traffic volume, capacity, degree of saturation (DS), and level of service (LOS) at the Paringin Signalized Intersection using the 1997 Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual (MKJI). The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach. Primary data were collected through traffic surveys conducted for three days, from 9 to 11 May 2026, with observations carried out for 12 hours per day from 06.00 to 18.00 WITA. The collected data included intersection geometry, traffic volume, and signal timing. The analysis covered traffic volume, saturation flow, capacity, degree of saturation, and level of service for each approach. The results showed that the peak-hour traffic volumes were 549 pcu/hour for the North approach, 418 pcu/hour for the South approach, 120 pcu/hour for the West approach, and 168 pcu/hour for the East approach. The corresponding capacities were 408.13, 499.90, 588.04, and 419.70 pcu/hour, with DS values of 1.34, 0.84, 0.20, and 0.40, respectively. The resulting LOS were F, D, A, and B. The North approach was the critical approach because its traffic volume exceeded the available capacity. Therefore, signal timing evaluation and capacity improvement are required, particularly for the North approach.
