Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a picture of active coping of mother with a mentally disabled children in terms of decision making abilities, situation improvement, meaning, and positive thinking in overcoming children's problems. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological study approach involving three respondents, mother who have biological children with mild, moderate, and severe mental disability. The results of this study indicate that: 1) In terms of decision making ability, mothers have a great desire to plan intensive guidance to the children. 2) In terms of improving the situation, the mother puts the child in a public school after that she transfers to the developmental school, provides therapy and a doctor's examination. 3) Judging from the meaning, the mother can accept the condition of the child, see that the child has a deficiency, and believes that all the gifts of God must have wisdom. 4) In terms of positive thinking, the mother believes that one day the child can grow normally, remain optimistic, hoping that the child's condition can make them go to heaven. Based on the four aspects of active coping, mothers with mildly disabled children show more effort in optimizing their children's abilities. Whereas for mothers who have moderate and severe mentally disabled children, they show more meaning to the situation they are facing.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the implementation of statistical literacy at the elementary schools level within the mathematics curriculum. Statistical literacy is a essential skill that enables students to understand, analyze, and interpret data and information critically. In an era where information and data are abundant, having statistical literacy skills has become increasingly relevant and crucial for developing students' understanding of the world, which involves various data-based information. This study uses a qualitative approach by analyzing government regulation documents concerning the mathematics curriculum used at the elementary school level. The results of the research indicate that statistical literacy has not been fully integrated effectively into the elementary school mathematics curriculum. While there have been some efforts to incorporate statistical concepts into mathematics learning, there are still challenges in teaching data analysis skills and interpreting statistical information more deeply.

Abstract

Statistics is the science that deals with the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of data. In fifth grade elementary school, students learn that statistics can be used to understand information from the data they collect. This study aims to analyze the influence of the PACE (Project, Activities, Cooperative, Exercises) learning model and self-esteem on students' statistical literacy Ability. The sample of the research are fifth-grade students at Karya Baru state Elementary School in Baubau City. The method used is a Quasi-Experimental Design with a 2x3 factorial design. Data collection techniques include tests of statistical literacy Ability and self-esteem questionnaires. Data analysis is conducted using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and two-way ANOVA tests. The results of the study indicate a significant effect of the PACE learning model on students' statistical literacy abilities. No significant effect of self-esteem on statistical literacy Ability was found. Additionally, the analysis shows that there is no interaction between the PACE learning model and self-esteem in influencing students' statistical literacy Ability. This emphasizes the importance of implementing appropriate learning models to enhance statistical literacy using the PACE learning model.

Abstract

The importance of understanding the influence of self-esteem levels on students’ mathematical literacy lies in the fact that differences in self-confidence can affect the way students think, understand, and apply arithmetic operation concepts in problem-solving. This study aims to analyze elementary school students’ mathematical literacy skills on arithmetic operation material based on their levels of self-esteem—high, moderate, and low. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method involving 25 fifth-grade students from SD Negeri 20 Kota Baubau as the research subjects. The focus of the study was directed toward students’ ability to solve arithmetic operation problems by considering their respective levels of self-esteem. Data were collected through three main instruments: a questionnaire to measure self-esteem, a mathematical literacy test to assess students’ mathematical thinking skills, and interviews to obtain in-depth information about their thought processes and problem-solving strategies. The results of the study revealed variations in students’ mathematical literacy abilities influenced by their levels of self-esteem. Students with low self-esteem were generally unable to meet all indicators of mathematical literacy, those with moderate self-esteem demonstrated a fairly good understanding but faced difficulties in mathematical communication, while students with high self-esteem showed strong mastery of all mathematical literacy indicators.
