Abstract

Diabetes and hypertension are non-communicable diseases that are a public health problem and require ongoing prevention and control efforts. This community service program aims to raise public awareness about the importance of early detection, prevention, and control of diabetes and hypertension through health checks, health education, and the introduction of purple sweet potato pudding as a healthy snack alternative. The activity involved checking blood sugar levels using a glucometer and measuring blood pressure using a sphygmomanometer, followed by education on symptoms, risk factors, prevention, and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle. This activity was attended by 96 participants. The results showed that 65.6% of participants were identified as having hypertension, while 9.4% had blood sugar levels indicating the possibility of diabetes. These results demonstrate the importance of raising public awareness about regular health checks and adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle. The introduction of purple sweet potato pudding is expected to encourage the public to choose healthier snacks as part of a balanced diet. However, consuming purple sweet potato pudding cannot replace medical treatment, and its benefits in lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels still require adequate scientific evidence. Thus, this community service activity is expected to increase public knowledge and awareness of health and encourage further examinations and consultations with health workers if abnormal examination results are found.
