The purpose of this research is to discuss the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. about preserving the bodies using chemicals (hanuth). This research method is qualitative through the takhrij and sharah hadith approaches with chemical analysis. The results and discussion of this study is about the use of hanuth in preserving the bodies and formalin as a substitute for hanuth. In addition, several benefits of hanuth were also found, including as an ingredient for the scent of corpses at the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and also as a preservative for corpses. This study concluded that the law of preserving corpses using chemicals was permitted by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. based on takhrij and syarah hadith. This study recommends formaldehyde as a substitute for hanuth, because hanuth in today's times is difficult to obtain.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perspectives of sociologists and hadith scholars on the practice of interfaith marriage in Indonesia, as well as to evaluate the social and religious impacts of the interaction between these two perspectives within the context of a Muslim society that is plural yet tends to be legally conservative in religious matters. This research is significant because interfaith marriage frequently generates dissonance between the constitutional rights of citizens and shar‘i norms, while also serving as a site of value negotiation amid the increasing intensity of interreligious interactions. The method employed is descriptive qualitative research using a sociology of hadith approach, combining an analysis of both classical and contemporary hadith literature with theories of the sociology of religion. Data were collected through a literature review encompassing hadith collections, exegetical and jurisprudential works of scholars, academic publications, as well as legal and policy reports. Data analysis was conducted using thematic content analysis, hermeneutics, and comparative analysis in order to identify points of convergence and divergence between sociological and normative-hadith perspectives. The findings reveal that the sociological perspective positions interfaith marriage as a complex social phenomenon—closely related to social integration, identity negotiation, and value conflicts—whereas the hadith perspective emphasizes the preservation of faith, household stability, and protection of lineage, with only limited and conditional space for permissibility. The interaction between these perspectives produces multidimensional effects, ranging from social resistance and the marginalization of couples to the creation of interfaith dialogue spaces within inclusive urban communities. The implications of this research lie in the need for policies that bridge religious norms and positive law, including through interfaith dialogue, public education, and pastoral guidance for interfaith families. The originality of this study lies in its integration of sociological analysis with hadith studies to contextualize the issue of interfaith marriage, offering an analytical framework that connects religious texts with socio-historical dynamics, and providing practical contributions for policy development in plural societies.

Abstract

This study was aimed at analyzing the concept of social Sufism of Amin Syukur. This study used a qualitative approach by placing the researcher as the key instrument, and was combined with a biographical study of thoughts. Literature study was chosen as a data collection technique by exploring various relevant sources. The finding revealed that in the concept of social Sufism ofAmin Syukur, becoming a Sufi did not have to be part of a particular tarekat school. In addition, the paradigm promoted in social Sufism was that Sufism was not a passive and individualist teaching. This paradigm was motivated by Amin Syukur's thought that humans were social beings having roles and functions in social life. At this level a Sufi was placed as an agent of change and social control. Therefore, in Amin Syukur's view, Sufism was not only related to ritualit, which gave birth to individual piety, but also had implications for participation in social, cultural, and political life, which gave birth to social piety. Thus, it was concluded that social Sufism was a moderate concept emphasizing the balance between individual and
