Abstract

Abstract

Democracy emergencies often become a phenomenon and issue in Indonesia. Responses to this issue are certainly very diverse. There are biases and prejudices directed at the state of democracy in Indonesia. At the concrete and practical level, democracy itself is a tool to achieve common goals. However, on the other hand, democracy is in an emergency condition because it has been used as a non-transparent tool, and democracy is even used as a means to perpetuate the pursuit of interests. This research aims to provide new discourse and insights into the crisis situation and democratic bias that is occurring, while also trying to find answers regarding the political role of citizens in overcoming the crisis. The method used in the activities is the qualitative discourse method through literature study, observation, and focus group discussion. (FGD). The research results indicate that the issues of demos and krator need to be returned to their essence, both conceptually and in practice, in the political life of the nation and state. Individuals who are called to enter the world of politics and run a democracy need to be accompanied by knowledge and experience (arête). The practice of democracy becomes effective when those involved in political decision-making are able to perform their duties and produce policies that do not lead to the common good. If placed in the context of Indonesia, Pancasila should become a source and inspiration for democracy that prioritises common interests and justice.

Abstract

This study aims to reaffirm the relevance of amaedola, a traditional proverb of Nias which is rich ofethicsand moral values, as a means to form a humanistic, integrative, and dignified character. Despite its deep cultural significance, amaedolais increasingly neglected, particularly among younger generations who are more captivated by the allure of global culture. The rapid flow of information and modern technology has further eroded interest in local wisdom. This research employs a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through literature review, interviews, and direct observation in local communities. The findings reveal that amaedolaserves as an effective medium for pastoral engagement in Nias, as its messages and meanings are embedded in the communal psyche and resonate with the lived experiences of the people. These values facilitate a more accessible embodiment of faith and spirituality through existing cultural traditions. The study implies that integrating amaedolainto pastoral practices not only enhances cultural sensitivity in ministry but also contributes to the preservation and revitalization of Nias’ indigenous wisdom. The originality of this research lies in its contextual theological approach, which bridges local culture and pastoral praxis in a manner that affirms indigenous identity and spiritual development.

Abstract

Vows are promises that religious individuals make to remain faithful to God, including the evangelical counsels of obedience, chastity, and poverty. These vows are fundamental to spiritual life and must be actively lived. The vow of obedience is meant to help individuals faithfully follow God's will freely and responsibly, expressed through mission work, communal living, and service to the Church. However, living out this vow today is challenging due to societal changes and the fast-paced, individualistic nature of modern life. Thus, the vow of obedience needs to be revisited to ensure it stays true to the principles in the OSF constitution and is not diminished by changing times. It also represents a commitment to social responsibility in the context of globalization and technological advancement. This article uses qualitative research through literature study to examine the challenges and deeper understanding of the vow of obedience in the OSF congregation. In conclusion, the vow of obedience remains relevant today and is a source of strength for religious individuals in fulfilling their calling. Religious individuals today are called to be humble and ready to be sent.
