Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the readiness of English communication skills of tourism students at Mataram Tourism Vocational College to enter the ASEAN Economic Community era. The scope of this study includes students from three tourism study programs, namely diploma 3 programs in hotel and hospitality, diploma 3 tours and travel and bachelor program in tourism. A total of 110 respondents were used in this study. Four English communication skills including listening, speaking, reading, and writing are measured using questionnaires as instruments for collecting data. Statistical analysis includes percentages, averages, and standard deviations. The research findings revealed that Tourism students at STP Mataram need to develop and improve their skills in English communication, especially listening and speaking which is a skill needed to communicate with foreigners, especially in NTB. From the four skills of language, STP Mataram student Language skills are not ready to communicate using English, 30% respondents answered that they have not been able or disagree from the questionnaire.

Abstract

The aim of this study to analyze students' English speaking skills in conducting taking orders procedure in restaurants.  This study is conducted in order to overcome the problems encountered by the students in speaking activities in taking orders. To measure the ability of students in speaking English in taking orders, the researchers observed the procedures that the students did not perform and measure the students? competence of English language. Samples of this study are the fourth semester students in Hospitality courses Diploma Degree of Mataram Tourism Institute in Academic Year 2018/2019. The results of this study indicated that the level of completeness of the procedure in taking student orders in STP Mataram is in average. More than 50% students have conducted the appropriate procedure when taking orders in using English. From the result of data analysis in measuring the students? competence in speaking English, the mean score is 78.90 with standard deviation is 12.14. From the result, it is converted and get score 3.1. The score showed that the ability of English students from 40 students in STP Mataram classified as Good Criteria.

Abstract

Vocabulary is crucial to language learning in which lack vocabulary knowledge will make learner difficult to learn the language. Vocabulary knowledge is affected by the vocabulary learning strategies. The purpose of the present study was to identify the vocabulary learning strategies employed by postgraduate students and also try to explore the most and least vocabulary strategy used by Mataram university postgraduate students. The sample of this study was 40 postgraduate students of English department in FKIP Mataram University in academic year 2014/2015. Vocabulary learning strategies questionnaire was used in this study to identify students? frequency of vocabulary learning strategies use. The result of the study showed that the research subjects used the vocabulary learning strategies in all five categories. The memory strategies (37.80) were the most frequently strategies by all subjects. Meanwhile determination strategies (mean=19.43) were determined as the second frequently used strategies followed by cognitive (mean=15.23), metacognitive (mean=13,26). The social strategies were determined as the least used strategies by all students with mean score of 11.00. In specific, looking at each item of category, the most vocabulary learning strategy used by postgraduate students was guessing from context (mean=3.33) which is part of determination category and the least vocabulary learning strategy used by postgraduate students was ask other people to discover the meaning of new vocabulary (mean=1.50)

Abstract

The development of information and technology continues to grow in this revolution industry 4.0, especially in the development of technology with the internet. It influences the world of education, especially in learning methods. One of the developments in education and learning methods that are currently in use is Google classroom. The purpose of this study is to identify how students' responses towards learning English Profession using Google Classroom which is applied to the teaching and learning process at the Mataram College of Tourism. This research is survey research. The number of samples of this study was 135 students from Mataram College of Tourism. The variables examined in this study include aspects of ease in accessing, usefulness, communication and interaction, and students? satisfaction in learning using google classroom. The result of this research shows that students in Mataram Tourism College feel accessing Google Classroom is easy to access, useful, easy for communication and interaction and feel satisfying with Google Classroom. From the interview, the respondents agree that Google Classroom offers helpful features that support the lecturers to manage the course efficiently and effectively. However, from the interview, it was found that the respondents felt that the quality of the learning processing was not better than conventional methods and they were uncomfortable during the learning processing in the google classroom.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pelatihan peningkatan kapasitas dosen dalam persiapan akreditasi internasional FIBAA adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dosen mengenai kriteria dan standar akreditasi FIBAA. Kegiatan pelatihan ini bertujuan memberikan keterampilan dalam penyusunan dokumen akreditasi yang komprehensif, serta mendorong penerapan praktik terbaik dalam pengajaran dan penelitian. Selain itu, kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat memfasilitasi diskusi dan kolaborasi antar dosen, sehingga menciptakan sinergi dalam upaya mencapai akreditasi internasional. Penyelenggaraan pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan beberapa manfaat signifikan, baik bagi para pengajar maupun bagi peserta didik. Hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan peningkatan kapasitas dosen dalam persiapan akreditasi internasional FIBAA meliputi pemahaman yang mendalam dan dosen memahami kriteria dan standar akreditasi FIBAA secara menyeluruh. Melalui serangkaian sesi yang interaktif dan informatif, dosen telah memperoleh pemahaman yang mendalam mengenai kriteria dan standar akreditasi FIBAA.

Abstract

This research explores the vital aspect of service quality in tourism development, focusing on Impos Beach located in Medana Village, Tanjung District, North Lombok Regency. With the aim of assessing visitor satisfaction, this quantitative descriptive study seeks to evaluate the quality of service at Impos Beach, a prominent tourist attraction in North Lombok Regency. The research employs a multi-method approach, utilizing questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation for data collection. A random sampling technique was used, resulting in 115 respondents out of a population of 28,800 visitors. Data analysis involved frequency analysis and average calculations. The collective results, derived from the assessment of five service quality variables comprising 14 question indicators, yielded an overall satisfaction score of 3.74, categorizing visitor satisfaction as 'satisfied.' This study offers valuable insights into the quality of service at Impos Beach, with implications for tourism management and development in the region. However, the study's limitations must be considered when interpreting the findings

Abstract

The digital transformation era has revolutionized education, emphasizing the need for innovative teaching methods. This study explores the integration of Google Sites as a platform for delivering vocabulary course instructions to address challenges such as demotivation, inefficiency, and lack of accessibility in traditional methods. Conducted with 36 undergraduate students from teaching training and education faculty at Nusa Cendana University, the research employed pre-test and post-test evaluations to measure the impact of the platform. Key features of the developed Google Site include multimedia elements, interactive quizzes, and collaborative tasks tailored to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. Results indicate a significant improvement in students' vocabulary proficiency, as evidenced by a statistically significant difference in pre-test and post-test scores (t=-9.6152, p less than 0.05. A large absolute value signals a very strong effect. The findings highlight the potential of Google Sites to transform vocabulary instruction by fostering motivation, accessibility, and effective learning.
