Abstract

Symbolic violence is a non-physical violence as an exertion to legitimate domination in a social group. Symbolic violence practice possibly occur everywhere and every time including school. Nevertheless, that practice tends to be considered as a normal phenomenon. Thus the object of the violence unconsciously put himself as the victim of the violence. The theory of Bourdieu was used to explain social class dominantly represented in the pictures of text books and symbolic violence represented in the pictures of English Text Books used. Data analysis of the pictures was based on Pragmatic Semiotic theory that explained in qualitative descriptively at the end. The research has shown that high class characteristics are dominantly described and several pictures of the two books represented symbolic violence practice. However, it always considered normal without proper explanation. Another concerned finding was that Symbolic violence practice was indicated by the representation of particular social class’s characteristic dominantly. It could be an obstacle for those who have never seen the modals previously. This research has proven the existence of symbolic violence in school and as an alert as well for those who plays any role in education to prevent social discrimination and symbolic violence practice.

Abstract

The digital transformation era has revolutionized education, emphasizing the need for innovative teaching methods. This study explores the integration of Google Sites as a platform for delivering vocabulary course instructions to address challenges such as demotivation, inefficiency, and lack of accessibility in traditional methods. Conducted with 36 undergraduate students from teaching training and education faculty at Nusa Cendana University, the research employed pre-test and post-test evaluations to measure the impact of the platform. Key features of the developed Google Site include multimedia elements, interactive quizzes, and collaborative tasks tailored to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. Results indicate a significant improvement in students' vocabulary proficiency, as evidenced by a statistically significant difference in pre-test and post-test scores (t=-9.6152, p less than 0.05. A large absolute value signals a very strong effect. The findings highlight the potential of Google Sites to transform vocabulary instruction by fostering motivation, accessibility, and effective learning.

Abstract

Kegiatan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam membuat brosur wisata berbahasa Inggris sebagai sarana promosi destinasi lokal. Pelatihan dilaksanakan selama dua hari di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Nusa Cendana, dengan melibatkan 40 peserta. Materi pelatihan mencakup prinsip-prinsip dasar pembuatan brosur, pemilihan konten, desain visual, serta praktik menggunakan platform daring Canva. Peserta juga dilatih menyusun deskripsi destinasi wisata dalam bahasa Inggris yang komunikatif dan menarik. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta terhadap struktur dan fungsi teks promosi serta kemampuan mengintegrasikan unsur visual dan kebahasaan dalam produk akhir. Namun, kendala seperti keterbatasan perangkat dan jaringan internet menjadi tantangan tersendiri dalam pelaksanaan. Secara umum, pelatihan ini memberikan dampak positif dalam memberdayakan mahasiswa sebagai agen promosi wisata lokal, sekaligus memperkuat kompetensi mereka di bidang komunikasi pariwisata berbahasa Inggris.
