Abstract

The political identity of Islam emerged in a very large wave after the mobilization of time at the Jakarta elections in 2016. This has many implications for various aspects of State life, including the current democracy in Indonesia. In this case, Indonesia is a country that is still in the learning phase of democracy. The political influence of Islamic identity on democracy will make the nation split. This is backed by the strong narrative of the Political Islamic Group which at the end of the goal, wanted to establish the Islamic State. The future is political, will further heed and mobilize Muslims, as a majority, and rule out other religions.

Abstract

Often, Q.S al-Nisa [4]: ??34 becomes a legitimacy that men are above the level of women especially in the words al-Rijalu Qawwamuna ala al-Nisa. Understanding men is a leader for women has implications for a subordination of women. Women are often regarded as second class in life. Most of the scholars also interpreted this way, that men are leaders for women. However, it is different from Riffat Hassan who was present with his reinterpretation contribution to the letter. Riffat Hassan, who is a feminist activist, criticized the interpretation of the ulemas. This article will describe the results of a study of Riffat Hassan's interpretation of Q.S al-Nisa [4]: ??34. This research is a literature study, with the authors using the method of library research. The data source of this research is the work of Riffat Hassan and books or other scientific works that are relevant to the focus of writing. Based on the results of the study, Riffat Hassan's interpretation of Q.S al-Nisa [4]: ??34 was much influenced by feminism. In his interpretation, he criticized previous scholars who interpreted the word qawwam as a leader. According to him if the word is interpreted as a leader, it will have implications for theology and psychology of the superiority of men over women. He offers the results of interpretation which is better if the word is interpreted as a protector and support. That way will have better implications if the view is that men are the support and protectors of women than men over women.

Abstract

The concept of jihad from time to time and from generation to generation undergoes various changes depending on circumstances. However, most people only understand jihad as a battle on the battlefield with a sword or other weapon. Jihad is basically meant to exert power seriously. In the current context, in the midst of a global pandemic can resistance to the corona virus be considered a jihad? This is interesting and has novelty to study. This research is a library research (literature study). Research data sources consist of primary and secondary sources; the primary sourcis the Qur'an especially Q.S Al-Nisa [4]: 95 and secondary sources are all literature relating to the theme. The method used is descriptive-analytical method with Abdullah Saeed's contextual interpretation theory approach. Based on the results of research, resistance to the corona virus can be considered as jihad on the grounds that in the context of the first community jihad (in Q.S al-Nisa [4]: 9) was waging war to protect themselves, lives, property and others. If drawn into the context of the current pandemic, it has something in common, namely to protect lives. The difference lies in that if at that time the war against humans, while currently fighting against the virus. In relation to the intensity of the danger, it is now more dangerous because of its impacts on various things such as economic and social. If the form of jihad in the time of the Prophet was with war using weapons; swords, arrows, horses, spears, treasures and so on, so now the use of weapons; masks, soap, handsanitzer, tools of self protection, other medical devices, possessions and so on.

Abstract

This study investigates the hidden ideologies within HMI MPO's "Khittah Perjuangan" by employing Eco-critical Discourse Analysis, a blend of Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis and Stibbe's ecolinguistics. The research aims to uncover how HMI MPO perceives the human-nature relationship and evaluates these perceptions through an ecological lens. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the study involves three stages: data collection, critical discourse analysis, and ecolinguistic analysis. Key findings include the portrayal of humans as "khalifah" (stewards) responsible for environmental stewardship, and the concept of "sunnatullah" (natural laws) advocating for harmony with ecological systems. However, the use of exploitative language, such as "dominating nature," indicates a potential shift towards a destructive discourse. The study reveals that while HMI MPO promotes beneficial narratives emphasizing sustainability and respect for nature, there are ambivalent elements that require careful interpretation to avoid justifying environmental exploitation. By critically assessing the ecological discourses within "Khittah Perjuangan," the research highlights the importance of aligning organizational ideologies with sustainable practices and the potential role of HMI MPO in fostering ecological awareness and action. Keywords: HMI MPO, khittah Perjuangan, ideology, human-nature, eco-critical discourse

Abstract

This study investigates the event of a group of Buddhist monks praying during the Vesak holiday in 2024 at the Baiturrahman Mosque in Bengkal, Temanggung, and the subsequent public responses on social media. In Indonesia, where Islam is the predominant religion, there are sometimes interfaith  encounters that transcend conventional borders. The monks’ prayer, which was recorded and extensively shared on social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, provoked a range of responses, from appreciation for religious tolerance to concerns about the sanctity of sacred space. Using mediatization and framing theories, the study explores how the incident was portrayed and how it shaped public perception. A mixed-method approach, combining sentiment and thematic analyses of social media comments, identifies themes of societal harmony, religious identity, and tolerance. Positive sentiments celebrating interfaith tolerance predominated, though some saw it as overstepping religious boundaries. This case highlights social media’s role in framing religious discourse and influencing opinions, emphasizing its impact on interfaith relations and societal tolerance in Indonesia. The study sheds light on how digital media shapes views on interreligious engagement and coexistence.

Abstract

Despite the positive impacts, there are challenges in how Muslim fashion is digitally represented, particularly in how social media can unintentionally reinforce stereotypes or uphold Western beauty standards shaped by colonial legacies. Therefore, critical engagement is essential to ensure a more inclusive and unbiased portrayal. This study examines postcolonial and gender representations in Indonesian Muslim fashion brands on social media using a qualitative content analysis approach. The study analyses four Instagram accounts using an interpretive framework: @vanillahijab, @winonamodest, @hijabalila, and @nusseyba.id. By integrating postcolonial and gender theories, this research critically explores the influence of colonial discourse on hijab brands in the digital space. The findings reveal that these brands' social media platforms serve as a space for cultural reclamation, challenge traditional gender roles, and offer more diverse representations of Muslim women. However, many still reflect colonial narratives, particularly in promoting Westernized beauty ideals such as fair (white/light) skin, a thin, and a tall figure. Regarding gender representation, the content predominantly depicts women as professionals actively engaged in the workforce. These highlight the need for a more conscious and inclusive approach in digital Muslim fashion branding, encouraging brands to actively challenge colonial beauty norms and promote diverse representations that resonate with Indonesia's rich cultural and ethnic identities.
