Abstract

Muslim women are not obliged to attend the congregational prayers, especially Friday prayers (?al?t al-Jumu?ah). However, it is merit notice that some Muslim women in the Netherlands attend the Friday prayers voluntarily. This article tries to elucidate why they do so; what factors motivate them. In relation to this matter, some other questions, such as the attendance of women in mosques, the arrangement of men and women in mosques, and sermons, will also be studied. This study unravels the questions from two dimensions, normative and empirical. Especially relating to sermons, the study will be focused on three elements: the persons giving the sermons, the materials of the sermons, and the audience of the sermons.

Abstract

This article attempts to portray the competition of forces in the Indonesian democratic system, with the Ahmadiyya movement as the test case for the “contestation”. This article takes into account the reformation era as the landscape of the study, since this era opens a relatively wider opportunity for many entities to freely express their ideas and actions. Exploring the socio-political approach, this study comes up with the following findings: first, in the sociological domain, as predicted by Dawam Rahardjo, moderates defeat radical Indonesian Islam as the former outnumber the latter. However, in the political domain, as pointed out by Martin van Bruinessen, since the moderate Islam is just a silent majority, then the radical Islam wins the competition - marked by the issuance of the SKB Tiga Menteri, because the factor at work in the winning of this political competition is more on the “logic of power”, rather than the “power of logic”. The victory of the radical Islam in the political domain in turn implies at the failure of the Ahmadiyya movement in its struggle for survival in Indonesia.

Abstract

The methods for determining the qibla direction have developed significantly over time, with many easy and practical instruments now available. These include qibla azimuth calculations, raṣd al-qiblah (qibla observation), compasses, theodolites, mizwala, Google Earth, qiblalocator, and various smartphone-based applications. This study focuses on analyzing the methods for determining the qibla direction and the level of accuracy of the qibla orientation of mosques in Prayungan Village, Sawoo, Ponorogo, based on the theories of local raṣd al-qiblah and Google Earth. This research is a field study using qualitative methods. Data collection techniques include observation and interviews. The author selected four mosques as research samples. The results reveal that two of the four sampled mosques did not use methods from the science of astronomy. Their qibla direction determination relied on village access roads and compasses with unknown levels of accuracy. Meanwhile, the other two mosques used methods based on astronomical studies, namely global raṣd al-qiblah and the theodolite. This significantly influenced the accuracy tests conducted using the local raṣd al-qiblah method and Google Earth. Two out of four mosques, including one that used the global raṣd al-qiblah method, still showed deviations in their qibla direction, while the other two mosques showed no deviation

Abstract

This study aims to develop an online learning system (LMS) based on social presence. Through the innovation of this system, it is expected to create a new, more interactive atmosphere in online learning, facilitating interaction and engagement among learners. Social presence is a key element in creating an effective and meaningful online learning experience. It refers to the learners' ability to feel present, connected, and emotionally as well as socially engaged in the online learning environment. This study adopts a development research approach using the ADDIE model. The product of this research is a Learning Management System (LMS) accessible at www.goocid.com. GOOCID stands for Go Online Class in Indonesia. The results of product feasibility testing by experts indicate a feasibility level of 80%, meaning that this LMS offers high-quality UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) that meet user needs. Moreover, psychological experts' evaluations of the "social presence" aspect yielded a feasibility score of 98.12%, indicating that the Goocid LMS successfully integrates social presence elements relevant to enhancing user engagement in online learning.
