Abstract

Limbah cair aktivitas manusia yang tidak dilakukan pengelolaan dengan baik dapat berdampak buruk terhadap lingkungan, seperti terjadinya penurunan kualitas perairan. Sand filter merupakan salah satu teknologi pengolahan air yang  memanfaatkan gaya gravitasi, sehingga biaya operasional yang dikeluarkan relatif murah. Proses pengolahan yang terjadi adalah gabungan dari proses fisik, biologis, dan biokimia, sehingga efektifitas removal polutan menjadi cukup besar. Rate filtrasi yang lambat menjadi kelemahan sand filter, sehingga perlu adanya inovasi pada media sand filter agar rate filtrasi dapat ditingkatkan namun kualitas hasil tetap optimum. Tujuan penelitian yakni mendapatkan waktu optimum filtrasi pada empat jenis media berbeda. Penelitian dilakukan dengan membuat empat unit reaktor sistem batch. Reaktor dibuat dari bahan PVC dengan ketebalan media filter 0,7 m dan ketebalan media penyangga 0,15 m. Reaktor 1 (media pasir) didapatkan waktu optimum pada menit ke-15 dengan persentase penurunan kekeruhan sebesar 80%. Reaktor 2 (media pasir dan karbon aktif) didapatkan waktu optimum pada menit ke-20 dengan prosentase penurunan kekeruhan sebesar 69%. Reaktor 3 (media pasir dan geotekstil) didapatkan waktu optimum pada menit ke-30 dengan prosentase penurunan kekeruhan sebesar 71%. Reaktor 4 (media pasir, karbon aktif, dan geotekstil) didapatkan waktu optimum pada menit ke-30 dengan prosentase penurunan kekeruhan sebesar 73%.

Abstract

Permasalahan pada pengelolaan sampah dapat berakibat terjadinya degradasi kualitas lingkungan yang tidak memberikan kenyamanan untuk hidup sehingga dapat menurunkan kualitas kesehatan masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan pengujian mengenai kualitas air laut yang telah tercemar sampah terkait pengelolaan sampah di Pulau Lengkang Kecil. Observasi dan survey dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui kondisi eksisting penggelolaan persampahan serta titik persebaran timbulan sampah di Pulau Lengkang Kecil. Titik pengambilan sampel air didasarkan kepada titik persebaran sampah di perairan sekitar Pulau Lengkang Kecil. Ada sepuluh titik pengambilan sampel, yaitu tujuh titik pengambilan sampel dengan timbulan sampah tinggi dan tiga titik pengambilan sampel dengan timbulan sampah rendah. Ada empat parameter yang dianalisa, yaitu pH, turbidity (kekeruhan), dissolved oxygen (DO), dan nitrat. Sampel air kemudian dianalisa berdasarkan Kepmen LH No. 51 Tahun 2004 mengenai baku mutu air laut untuk biota laut. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa nilai DO, turbidity, dan nitrat melebihi baku mutu di titik-titik dengan jumlah sampah yang tinggi. Kajian kualitas air laut ini diharapkan dapat memberikan gambaran awal mengenai kondisi kualitas air laut serta rencana pengelolaan sampah di Pulau Lengkang Kecil.

Abstract

Pulau Lengkang merupakan salah satu pulau terluar Indonesia yang berada pada perbatasan Indonesia-Singapura. Kondisi eksisting pengelolaan sampah di Pulau Lengkang cukup buruk karena tidak adanya fasilitas pengelolaan sampah yang layak. Selain permasalahan fasilitas pengeloaan sampah di darat sampah, sampah yang mengapung dilaut menjadi salah satu ancaman dampak lingkungan. Meningkatkan kepedulian masyarakat harus dimulai sejak dini khususnya untuk anak-anak. Kegiatan penyuluhan pengelolan sampah di Pulau Lengkang dilakukan dengan sasaran anak-anak kelas satu sampah kelas enam sekolah dasar. Anak-anak sekolah dasar ini dibekali mengenai dampak lingkungan yang mungkin terjadi dari pengelolaan sampah yang buruk melalui storytelling. Selain penyuluhan anak-anak sekolah dasar ini diberikan praktik pemilihan sampah yang dikemas dengan permainan yang menarik.

Abstract

This research aims to process remaining shampoo products originating from the sampo industry into vehicle shampoo so that it has sales value and also has good quality. Determining the formulation for making this vehicle shampoo uses the trial and error method. After that, the variation data obtained will be tested through a pH test, density test, viscosity test, foam power test and corrosivity test. The results obtained are that the remaining variation data for the 25 mL shampoo product is the most optimal data because it meets the requirements for pH, density, viscosity and foaming test results. The results obtained from the variation data to make the best formulation were 47% remaining shampoo, 8% LAS, 8% NaCl (0.5 N), 8% NaOH (0.1 N), 0.4% Essense (Bubble Gum). %, and Aquadest 30%. This formulation produces a pH value of 7.18. Meanwhile, the density is 1.0257 g/cm3. The viscosity of this composition is 2.999 Pa.s. The stability of the foam power is 66,7% and the corrosion resistance test results get a value of 0.145655 mm/year or in the "Good" category in terms of corrosion resistance.

Abstract

Sektor rumah tangga dapat menghasilkan limbah B3 berupa obat kadaluwarsa. Obat kadaluwarsa berpotensi mencemari lingkungan, apabila tidak dibuang dengan cara yang tepat. Pengelolaan limbah dapat dipengaruhi oleh pengetahuan dan sikap. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan dan sikap terhadap tindakan pengelolaan limbah obat kadaluwarsa rumah tangga di Kecamatan Bengkong Kota Batam. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan cross sectional. Instrumen penelitian adalah kuisioner yang disebarkan ke 100 orang responden. Data dianalisa dengan menggunakan analisa korelasi Spearman Rank. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan dan tindakan dalam pengelolaan limbah obat kadaluwarsa rumah tangga. Nilai koefisien korelasinya adalah 0,119. Hal ini menandakan bahwa hubungan yang terjadi antara pengetahuan dan tindakan pengelolaan limbah obat kadaluwarsa adalah sangat lemah. Sikap juga memiliki hubungan dengan tindakan dalam pengelolaan limbah obat kadaluwarsa rumah tangga. Nilai koefisien korelasi dari sikap dan tindakan adalah -0,357, yang dapat diartikan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang cukup kuat antara sikap dan tindakan pengelolaan limbah obat kadaluwarsa.

Abstract

Population and population density affect the production of waste generated. The increasing of population and population density in Batam caused by the economic growth. The development of Batam not only led into the increasing of population but also waste generated. Therefore, the aims of this research is to evaluate the existing condition of waste generated based on population and population density in Batam with descriptive analysis. Descriptive statistical analysis was conducted in order to know range value, mean and standard deviation of waste generated, population and population density. The result shows waste generated in Batam has increased into 4.81% from 2021 to 2022. Batam Centre District supplies the most amount waste generated (23%), whereas Nongsa District supplies the less amount of waste generated (4,86%). The Daily waste generation rate in Lubuk Baja is higher than daily waste generated based on SNI. Another specific variable in population might be given impact to waste generated, which is ratio comparation of population based on gender. Descriptive analysis’s result stated that waste generated has range value 12,478,650 – 60,336.220 with standard deviation 14,542,363.712 and mean 28,998,778.89. Population range value is 61,497–226,040 with standard deviation and mean respectively 57,227.43 dan 135,304.22. Last, population density has range value 295 – 6,406 with standard deviation 1,907.59 and mean 2,550.89.

Abstract

World Cleanup Day gives positive impact to environmental care activities in Indonesia. Environmental Services of Batam participated into World Cleanup Day action by sorting waste from public residence in 2021. In the year of 2024, Batam still involved in World Cleanup Day action. One of the location was Tanjung Bemban, Nongsa. The purpose of this social service is to partipate in world clean up day by cleaning up the waste in Tanjung Bemban beach. The method is application of participatory approach. There are two steps in this action. The first step is introduction and preparation that conducted by committee of World Cleanup Day. Whereas, the second step is clean up the waste in the specified locations. The waste classified into four categories. Participants collected and weighted the waste to the committee. Beach Cleanup Day 2024 in Tanjung Bemban can collected waste around 235.3 kilograms, consist of 97.3 kilograms organic waste, 88.4 kilograms plastic waste and 49.6 kilograms other type of waste. This action also involved many participants from various parties, such as government, military, NGOs, universities and schools. Beach clean up action expected to increase practice in waste management.

Abstract

The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the Nusa Dua area has implemented a stabilization pond to reduce organic matter and nutrients. Because it has been operating since 1980, it is necessary to evaluate the existing conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the percentage of organic and nutrient reduction from the WWTP system. Organic removal in the form of BOD and COD parameters were 71.84% and 75.11%, respectively. Meanwhile, nutrient parameters in the form of NH3-N, TN, and TP have a percentage of 83.64%; 59.41%, and -375.81%, respectively. TP is the only parameter that has increased, causing a problem which is caused by the explosion of algae population in the reservoir. TP allowance should be a concern in choosing advanced treatment.

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency and characteristics of pig wastewater treatment. This was to be achieved using ABR with the addition of effective microorganism4 (EM4) as a bio-activator during the startup process (R1) and without EM4 (R2). Methodology and Results: Piggery wastewater is poured into ABR with 12 hours HRT (hydraulic retention time), though it is reduced to 6 hours after the concentration is stable. The COD removal efficiency at 12 hours HRT was 60% (R1) and 51% (R2). However, the results did not change significantly, since the 6 hours HRT COD efficiency was 57.8% (R1) and 51.3% (R2). The biomass growth rate at R1 is faster than R2 with Food to Microorganism Ratio (F/M) 0.4-0.89 (R1) and 0.68-1.38 (R2) while the yield of methane gas formation was 0.25-0.28 L-CH4/g-COD. Conclusion, significance, and impact study: COD effluent is the total organic material present in the piggery wastewater effluent, which is discharged into water bodies without meeting the set quality standards. This damages the quality of water bodies. The wastewater treatment needs to be prioritized to meet quality standards of COD effluent. Also, the addition of EM4 to the activated sludge reactor improves the COD removal efficiency and biomass growth, though advanced treatment is still needed for piggery wastewater.
