Abstract

Kinetic models are widely used to predict the performance of biological treatment systems. The facultative ponds are applied as a biological treatment for domestic wastewater in the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in Bojongsoang, Bandung Regency, West Java. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of several kinetic models for the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal process that occurs in facultative ponds in WWTP Bojongsoang. The best kinetic model will provide a more accurate predictions of COD effluent concentrations in facultative ponds. Data series of COD influent and effluent concentration were collected from field data of water quality monitoring monthly from years 2019 to 2022. The kinetic models used in this study were the first-order kinetic model combined plug flow pattern, the first-order kinetic model with continuous stirred tanked reactor flow pattern, the plug flow k-C* model, and the Stover-Kincannon model. Model accuracy was evaluated using statistical methods by calculating the mean average percentage error (MAPE) to compare model data with measured observation data. The COD effluent prediction showed that the Plug Flow k-C* model had the smallest MAPE for both facultative ponds, namely 28.3% for facultative pond 1A and 30.2% for facultative pond 2A. Kinetic rate values for both facultative ponds using plug flow k-C* model respectively, 0.1818 m/day for F1A and 0.1750 m/day for F2A.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a significant environmental issue, particularly due to its slow decomposition and incresing accumulation. One solution to mitigate plastic waste is the Ecobrick method., where non-organic plastic is compacted into plastic bottles to create durable building materials. This study focuses on the socialization and assistance program for plastic waste recycling using Ecobrick method at SDN Kawungsari, Bandung Regency. The program aims to raise awareness among students and the community about the importance of waste separation and the potential of Ecobricks, along with follow-up assistance to ensure continuous practice. Surveys and observations were conducted before and after the program to measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, and participation levels regarding plastic waste recycling. The result showed a significant increase in awareness and active involvement from students and teachers in the creation of Ecobrick. This initiative demonstrates the potential of educational interventions to foster sustainable waste management practices in local communities.

Abstract

Gudang Village is one of the villages in Tanjung Sari District, Sumedang Regency, West Java that uses groundwater as source of clean water. The Community Service activity aims to deliver introduction about clean water quality standard and also to conduct groundwater quality testing in community housing. Results showed temperature and total dissolved solid (TDS) parameters still meet the quality standard. Meanwhile, 35,29% of groundwater visual looks turbid and smelly. The pH value of groundwater showed about 88,24% of groundwater has pH value <6.5. In general, groundwater in Desa Gudang are safe as source of clean water

Abstract

The availability of clean water is a crucial aspect of water security efforts to achieve national resilience. However, several regions in Indonesia still experience limited clean water supply in terms of quantity. Cipageran Village is one of the area that experienced limited clean water supply. Clean water distribution in the area is still inadequate. Therefore, residents of Cipageran Village drill wells to obtain clean water. Clean water sourced from these wells requires planning for distribution to residents' homes. Therefore, a technical plan for the clean water distribution network from the drilled wells to residents' homes is needed. The results of the technical planning for the clean water distribution network using the Epanet 2.2 software were then socialized to residents. In addition, the budget plan required to build the clean water distribution network was also delivered to residents. This socialization was expected to provide residents with the information needed to build a clean water distribution network from the drilled wells to residents' homes.
