Abstract

ABSTRACT Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease that affects the quality of life of sufferers, where family support and medication adherence play an important role for its improvement. This study aims to analyse the relationship between family support and medication adherence with the quality of life of patients with T2DM at Puskesmas Waluya Cikarang Utara. This study design uses a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all Type II DM patients in the working area of the Waluya Cikarang Utara Community Health Centre, totalling 56 people, with a sample size of 49 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using the HDFSS (family support) questionnaire, MARS-5 (medication adherence), and DQOL (quality of life). Data analysis was performed using the chi-square statistical test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a significant relationship between family support and quality of life (p = 0.000; PR = 2.602; CI = 1.062–6.373) and between medication adherence and quality of life (p = 0.004; PR = 3.733; CI = 0.683–20.419). Patients with low family support had a 2.6 times greater risk of experiencing low quality of life compared to patients with high family support, while patients with low adherence had a 3.7 times greater chance of experiencing low quality of life compared to patients who were compliant. These results indicate that the higher the family support and medication adherence, the better the quality of life of DMT2 patients. Therefore, the findings of this study can be used as a basis for healthcare professionals in developing family-based interventions to improve the quality of life of Type 2 Diabetes patients through increased family support and adherence to treatment. Keywords: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Family Support, Medication Adherence, Quality of Life.
