Abstract

Reyog Ponorogo is an artwork with a rich history and folklore, as well as a particular visual narrative that is worth studying through the lens of visual data studies. Reyog performers offer significant meanings via the visuals of their performance as well as the ideology of Ponoragan Javanese culture. The purpose of this project is to convert oral myths into visual signals in Reyog performances using visual data. Using W.J.T. Mitchell's "Picture Theory" method, this research investigates the complicated interplay between pictures and text, introducing the idea of "imagetext" as one manifestation of this interaction. The method used is a prompt-based descriptive approach in which keywords are entered to instruct the artificial intelligence (AI) system to translate the command into a visual form, as well as a re-representation technique based on "picture words" in an effort to create images with narratives rooted in Reyog Ponorogo mythology. This study included two AI systems: Leonardo AI and Midjourney. The study found that the AI system is not entirely capable of understanding local regional languages, leading to plot discrepancies between pictures in the same story series. Nonetheless, this technique adds a new dimension to visual communication technology, particularly in the delivery of visual messages using AI.

Abstract

Community Service Program represents the practical implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi in the field of community service. The activity conducted in Ngrogung Village, Ngebel District, aimed to address challenges faced by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), including the limited utilization of digital technology, lack of product development leading to weak competitiveness, and licensing barriers that hindered business growth. The program employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, emphasizing the utilization of local assets such as community skills, social networks, natural resources, and MSME experience. Through mentoring and empowerment activities, the program sought to strengthen existing capacities to enable MSMEs to grow independently and sustainably. The results demonstrated improved understanding among MSME participants regarding innovation and digital transformation. They successfully adopted digital tools such as WhatsApp Business, Instagram, Facebook Marketplace, Canva, and Google Sites for marketing, product promotion, and online catalog development. Additionally, several MSME actors obtained home industry food business permits (PIRT), enhancing their legitimacy and competitiveness. The outcomes indicated substantial progress in digital literacy, product branding, and market expansion, with participants showing improved entrepreneurial skills, more attractive product packaging, and early adoption of digital payment systems. This initiative has not only fostered individual capacity development but also promoted collective awareness of innovation as a key driver of sustainable rural economic growth. Overall, the program contributes directly to achieving three key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 4 (Quality Education) through digital training and capacity building, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by encouraging sustainable entrepreneurship and enhancing rural economic productivity, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by fostering innovation and strengthening digital business ecosystems within local communities.

Abstract

Cleanliness, comfort, and safety are essential factors that must be met to ensure a tourist destination is suitable for visitors. Sometimes, disasters become one of the causes of failed destination management, as they render the area unsafe and uncomfortable. Therefore, a mitigation plan is necessary in tourist areas, making the mapping of existing tourist attractions crucial for disaster planning efforts. Desa Biting, Badegan, Ponorogo is a village with 9 (nine) tourist destinations, most of which are natural tourist attractions that have the potential to cause disasters. Given this situation, the disaster management team from Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo, in collaboration with the village authorities, conducted several activities to create a disaster risk map. The methods used include: 1) conducting focus group discussions (FGD) with all stakeholders to discuss disaster potential, 2) conducting disaster mapping by identifying disaster-prone areas, 3) establishing a disaster response task force by leveraging existing institutional frameworks, and 4) installing disaster maps in tourist areas. From these activities, three dominant potential hazards were identified, namely forest fires, landslides, and floods. Based on the mapping results, mitigation efforts can be carried out to complement the organisational structure and supporting infrastructure. We recommend conducting a study on institutional readiness in preparing for disasters.

Abstract

Abstract

Ponorogo has a natural beauty comparable to that of one of the arts, Reyog Ponorogo. This study is based on the idea of visual communication through landscape photography, which captures the inherent beauty of the area. However, hidden beneath the unique natural beauty comes the risk of catastrophic calamities that endanger life and property. This research creates the natural beauty of Ponorogo, which has the potential for natural catastrophes, by combining geotagging photography techniques and disaster maps from the National Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Landslides and flash floods are the most major dangers. The government and the people are expected to investigate the combination of nature photography and natural catastrophe maps in order to preserve nature.
