Abstract

Recently, the Covid-19 pandemic has transformed teaching and learning into a virtual model, which demands teachers to find their best strategy. This study aims to analyze the strategies applied by teachers at the tertiary level in the time of Covid-19. The researchers employed a descriptive research design conducted in one of the Islamic universities at Bengkulu. The subjects were two English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching staff who taught speaking skills at the beginner level. The data was obtained through a semi-structured interview. The observation was also done during one semester, where the researchers took part in the online classrooms. After the data was collected, the researchers analyzed the data by following some steps: (1) data reduction, (2) data display, and (2) conclusion drawing/verification. The findings revealed that the English teachers used several teaching-speaking skills integrated with social media and mobile phone applications to be accessed easily. The strategies are lecturing, role-play, online group discussion, simulation, and drilling. They are blended with WhatsApp Group, Google Classroom, Zoom, and Instagram. Even though the learning process can be managed in this pandemic, face-to-face learning is still favorable.

Abstract

While oral communication skills is considered as an indicator of foreign language proficiency, in Indonesia, these skills seems to receive minium attention. As a result, the learning outcomes, still far from satisying. According to the literatures, teacher’s still encountered difficulties in teaching speaking and listening and hesitance to utilized English language in the classroom. This present study aimed to present comparative literature review of research studies related to teacher’s difficulties in teaching oral communication skills. First the study explains about communicative competence and listening model. Second, this study demonstrates the condition of oral communciation teaching in Indonesia and its relationship to the teachers’ competence. Thirdly, this study explore other Asian contexts. These contexts are compared and contrasted, thus some similarities and differences are highlighted. Finally, some practical implications and suggestions for further researches are offered.

Abstract

Kecerdasan logika matematika adalah salah satu kecerdasan majemuk yang membahas tentang angka, berhitung, mengenal warna dan bentuk. Maka kecerdasan logika matematika merupakan salah satu hal yang penting dimiliki oleh anak, oleh karena itu tujuan peneliti adalah untuk mengahasilkan suatu produk yang berupa media permainan gerobak sayur untuk meningkatkan kecerdasan logika matematika anak yang didesain dengan angka 1-10, berhitung penjumlahan, mengenal macam-macam sayuran, mengenal warna, bentuk sayuran, dan mengetahui apakah ini efektif untuk meningkatkan kecerdasan logika matematika anak. Jenis penelitian ini yang digunakan adalah Research and Development (R&D) Dengan Menggunakan Model ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahap yakni analisis (analysis), desain (design), pengembangan (development), implementasi (implementationd), dan evaluasi (evaluation). Namun, karena peneliti disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan yang ada maka peneliti uji coba produk skala kecil dengan di uji cobakan dengan 12 anak. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan pada pengembangan media permainan gerobak sayur untuk meningkatkan kecerdasan logika matematika anak usia yang mana mendapatkan hasil dari lembar kegiatan Pre-test sebesar 39,62%. Sedangkan pada lembar kegiatan post-test sebesar 94,01%. Dengan demikian terjadi mengalami peningkatan sebesar 54,95%. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk pengembangan media permainan gerobak sayur untuk meningkatkan kecerdasan logika matematika anak usia 5-6 tahun di TK Al-Anwar Kota Bengkulu layak untuk digunakan.

Abstract

The purposes of this research was to find out whether there is significant difference of students’ listening ability taught by using English subtitled cartoon videos and without taught at SMP 5 Bengkulu. The design of this research was an experimental research, which used quasi-experimental research. The subject of the research was the eight grade students SMP 5 Bengkulu. The researcher used cluster random sampling as a sampling technique and took two classes as the sample. Class VIII A as the experimental class which consist of 30 students and VIII B as the control class which consist of 30 students. The instrument of this research is a test. The data of research were collected by two kinds of test, pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was used to determine the students’ listening ability before getting the treatment and post-test was used to determine the students’ listening ability after getting treatment. In analyzing the data, researcher adopted independent and paired sample T-test formula by using SPSS version 16. Based on the analysis of t-test formula, the sig. value is 0.000. It could be stated that 0.000<0.05. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, while alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. The writer concluded that there is significant effect of using English subtitled cartoon videos to students’ listening ability at SMP 5 Bengkulu.

Abstract

Speaking is the most important skill among the four language skill in order to communicate well in this globalized world, especially speaking in English. The data collected by the researcher shows that there are some problems with learning speaking skills. Some of these problems are, students lack confidences in speaking English, students have difficulty in pronouncing English correctly, students are lazy to memorize English vocabulary, and students are less interested in learning English. learn English. With the problems faced by these students, in 2020 the MTs ja-alhaq school launched a pocket book for foreign language conversations which was used as an aid medium in learning students' speaking skills. This conversation pocket book is used during the foreign language development institute program. Foreign language development institutes are programs that study foreign languages. The result from this study is the application of an English conversation pocket book in teaching speaking skills in class VIII MTs Ja-Alhaq the English conversation pocket book has a positive response because it really help the teacher and students in the process of leaning a foreign language, especially English, even though the teacher has obstacles in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the views of students in implementing ASYNCHRONOUS online learning during the pandemic and what factors hinder the difficulties of teachers and students in using the ASYNCHRONOUS method in learning English during the covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this research is qualitative. The sample of this study consisted of 8th-grade students at SMPN 14 Bengkulu City. Data collection techniques were observation, interviews with class representatives via WhatsApp media, and giving questionnaires. This study shows that there are factors in technical difficulties when learning online using the ASYNCHRONOUS method, namely internal factors, and external factors. The solution to this problem requires an approach, motivation, support, and supervision from parents to students, so it is estimated that teachers and schools can increase creativity in presenting subject matter. Good interaction and communication between teachers, students, and parents are expected to increase students' motivation and interest in learning English during the current covid-19 pandemic. Keywords: ASYNCHRONOUS, students' views on online learning, difficulties.
