Abstract

Key words : coping strategy, anxiety, nursing student, Covid-19

Abstract

Background: Pre-procedural anxiety in esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) patients can negatively impact cooperation and physiological stability, increasing procedural risks. This study evaluated the AVOGADO intervention, integrating audiovisual education and spiritual support, to reduce anxiety and stabilize hemodynamic parameters. Methods: A Pre-Intervention Study was conducted on a 45-year-old male with chronic dyspepsia and moderate-to-severe anxiety (HAM-A > 25). The intervention was administered two days prior to the procedure. Anxiety levels were assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and hemodynamic parameters, including blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation, were measured at four time points: three days, two days, one day before, and on the day of the procedure. Result: Anxiety decreased significantly, with HAM-A scores dropping from 26 (moderate-to-severe) to 10 (mild). Hemodynamic parameters improved, with blood pressure reduced from 150/90 mmHg to 130/82 mmHg and heart rate from 98 bpm to 80 bpm. Oxygen saturation remained stable. Conclusion: The AVOGADO intervention effectively reduced anxiety and improved physiological stability in a pre-EGD patient. This simple, holistic approach offers promise for broader application in reducing anxiety in medical procedures. Further research with larger samples is recommended.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is when systolic blood pressure exceeds 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure exceeds 90 mmHg. Uncontrolled hypertension can cause various complications that can be fatal, especially in the cardiovascular system. Hypertension can be treated with pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. Non-pharmacological therapy can be done by consuming fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes. Tomatoes are believed to act as antioxidants, natural vasodilators, and diuretics that affect blood pressure. Purpose: This case study aims to determine the effect of tomato juice intervention on blood pressure in patients with hypertension.. Methods: This research is a case study with a nursing approach that applies evidence-based interventions in patients with hypertension. There were 3 respondents in this study who met the inclusion criteria. Discussion: The intervention of tomato juice on the three respondents proved effective in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Tomato juice has various beneficial ingredients such as potassium, lycopene, vitamin C, folic acid, and magnesium, which are natural vasodilators, antioxidants, and diuretics that affect blood pressure and mood. Conclusion: The intervention of tomato juice as a nonpharmacological therapy in patients with hypertension can reduce blood pressure.

Abstract

The likelihood of addiction increases as more school-aged youngsters use smartphones. When faced with an uncomfortable circumstance or pressure, kids with poor self-efficacy frequently turn to their smartphones as a coping strategy to instill a sense of security. This study aimed to understand the relationship between mental health literacy and students' attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help. The sampling technique used was stratified random sampling of 386 college students to fill out a questionnaire that assessed their mental health literacy and attitude towards seeking professional psychological help. The mean of mental health literacy score was 118 (SD=14.01) while the overall mean attitude towards seeking professional psychological help was 21 (SD=7.30). A correlation coefficient of r is found in statistical tests examining the relationship between the two variables. A significant correlation between the two variables is revealed by statistical testing (r=0.784, p=0.010). This study shows a significant correlation between mental health literacy and attitude towards seeking professional psychological help. Formulating strategies for education and promoting mental health services in higher education units is important.

Method: This research is a case study by implementing interventions according to EBN. The intervention carried out was a combination of warm water foot soak therapy with red ginger and benson therapy which was carried out for 10 minutes for 7 days. The research subject was 1 person. The subject is hypertensive elderly with anxiety nursing problems. Results: After intervention for 7 days, the post-test results for anxiety levels using the HARS (Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety) instrument showed a score of 8 (no anxiety). This score decreased when compared with the results of the pre-test anxiety level which received a score of 19 (mild anxiety), which means the client's anxiety decreased from mild anxiety to no anxiety. Conclusion: Providing a combination intervention of warm water foot soak therapy with red ginger and benson therapy for 7 days can reduce anxiety levels in hypertensive elderly.
