Abstract

Tradition tradition Keboan tradition is a tradition of inheritance that aims to clean the village, held in the month of Shura (Javanese calendar) as well as a medium to ask for help to be kept away from all the dangers that are not cooled. The issues studied are: 1) History Keboan, 2) Dynamics of customs tradition keboan Sukodono, 3) Stages in the implementation of Sukodoo keboan and 4) The value contained in the customary tradition. The results explain that the history keboan originated from the occurrence of unrest in the community where they get a strange disease that deadly. Tradition custom keboan Sukodono experiencing some changes due to politics and terpangkasnya rituals that are considered sacred for traditional leaders. The course of ritual procession begins to prepare food, selamatan village, after that many people possessed by ancestral spirits. The values ​​contained include the value of religion, entertainment, social togetherness and economic value.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the impact of using skimming and scanning strategies towards the students’ reading comprehension at grade 2 (two) of Vocational High School Negeri 1 Banyuwangi . Reading comprehension refers to the readers’ ability to understand the information of reading text. The use of skimming and scanning strategies in teaching reading is expected to be able to improve the students’ reading comprehension. Data collection technique focus on participant observation, interviews, and documentation. Skimming and Scanning is the appropriate technique to find the main idea, key word and content of the text without read the whole of the text. These findings suggest that there is impact of using skimming and scanning strategies towards the students’ reading comprehension at grade grade 2 (two) of Vocational High School Negeri 1 Banyuwangi. It is suggested that the teacher uses skimming and scanning strategies for teaching reading.

Abstract

In today’s globalized world, English language proficiency is essential for academic and professional success. This study investigated the effectiveness of a bilingual learning approach in improving English language skills among second grade students at Sumberrejo Elementary School in Banyuwangi. The study involved 16 students and implemented a strategy that integrated Indonesian as a first language (L1) with English as a second language (L2). Using Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology, this study conducted tests that showed an increase in students’ English language skills, with an average score increasing from 79.6% to 86.1%.These findings highlight the benefits of a bilingual approach. Integrating L1 and L2 in the learning process facilitates better understanding and retention of English concepts, reduces cognitive load, and increases students’ self-confidence. The use of culturally relevant local materials engages students by making learning more relevant and stimulating.This study underscores the importance of using students’ mother tongue as a scaffold in English language learning. The bilingual method successfully overcomes language barriers and creates an inclusive classroom atmosphere, improving linguistic skills and enhancing cognitive abilities such as problem solving.Despite the diverse backgrounds of students, the bilingual approach effectively meets individual learning needs and preferences. This study concludes that the implementation of bilingual strategies, complemented by relevant local content, can significantly improve English teaching and learning in primary schools.

Abstract

Linguistic proficiency in grammar constitutes a critical element of communicative competence, enabling precise and nuanced verbal expression. Consequently, grammar learning within Indonesian educational frameworks represents a pivotal pedagogical objective integrated into curricular design for secondary school students, particularly through qualitative approaches in educational technology and social media phenomenon study. However, there are still many intermediate students who still have difficulty understand learning grammar. TikTok is the solution to become a grammar learning preference, almost all students use TikTok. The research uses qualitative methods that focus on the study of phenomena. Data collection uses observation, reflective journals, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that students perceive TikTok as a highly engaging and enjoyable medium for learning grammar. The platform's short, visually appealing, and interactive videos enable students to grasp grammatical concepts more effectively in a relaxed and informal environment. Additionally, students reported an increase in motivation and confidence in applying grammar rules in both written and spoken English. These insights suggest that TikTok can serve as a valuable supplementary tool for grammar education, fostering independent learning and improving overall language proficiency in a digital age.
