Abstract

Cultural tourism serves as a dynamic platform for identity  negotiation, heritage preservation, and intercultural dialogue, particularly within community-based destinations. Rather than merely observing static cultural artifacts, visitors are increasingly drawn to immersive experiences that allow them to engage with living traditions and co-create meaning alongside local hosts. This study focuses on Kampung Wayang, a cultural enclave situated in Wukirsari, Yogyakarta, where the traditional art of wayang kulit is not only preserved but practiced as an everyday expression of cultural identity. Here, tourists are not passive consumers but active participants in a dialogical process of cultural transmission. The findings highlight that meaning-making in tourism is contingent upon the intensity and authenticity of interaction with cultural agents such as dalangs (puppet masters), artisans, and community storytellers. For instance, those who participated in puppet-making workshops or engaged in discussions about wayang philosophy reported deeper emotional resonance and cognitive insight. This supports theoretical models that posit experience as a co-constructed, affective, and reflective process. Ultimately, the study confirms that immersive participation in cultural production fosters not only aesthetic appreciation but also a profound understanding of embedded social values such as justice, loyalty, and spiritual balance. These findings suggest that cultural villages like Kampung Wayang serve as critical arenas for sustainable tourism, where the visitor experience transcends commodification and becomes a catalyst for mutual understanding and heritage continuity. As such, the village operates as both a site of memory and a space of transformation a place where local culture is not only performed, but also renegotiated through the eyes of its guests

Abstract

This study aims to analyse social construction of servicescape Liberika Coffee as a tourist attraction in Cipasung Village, Kuningan Regency, West Java Province. The research uses a qualitative method with a constructionism paradigm, and an epistemological philosophical approach. Analysis of the study research uses an Interpretative Phenomenology Analysis (IPA) analysis tool which is able to provide a double hermeneutic understanding to the phenomenon. The findings show that the servicescape of Liberika Coffee shop on the exterior evidence is constructed in the geographical area of Cipasung Village which is equipped with physical artifacts pointing the way to the Cipasung tourist village and Cipasung Coffee Agrotourism, the Cipasung Liberika coffee mini plantation and the post-harvest process. Meanwhile, the interior evidence is constructed in the form of coffee shop ambiance, in the sort of roasting process and coffeeshop ambiance. It concludes that physical evidence of Liberika Coffee are socially constructed by social actors (farmers, roaster, processor, barista, and visitors) and technical actors (mini coffee plantation, processing into green bean, and coffee shop). Abstract

Marine tourism holds immense potential for driving economic development, environmental stewardship, and cultural exchange. However, the rapid growth of coastal destinations often generates imbalances in benefit distribution, environmental degradation, and limited community involvement. This study examines the role of volunteer tourism (voluntourism) in empowering coastal communities in Tulamben, Bali, a world-renowned diving destination. Using a qualitative case study with a phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document review involving 15 stakeholders representing community groups, NGOs, government officials, tourism operators, and volunteers. The findings reveal that voluntourism strengthens community participation through grassroots initiatives, capacity building, and conservation programs. Socio-economic outcomes include income diversification and entrepreneurship development, while environmental benefits are evident in coral reef restoration and enhanced community stewardship. Challenges persist, including unequal benefit distribution, limited governance, and reliance on external actors. This paper argues that voluntourism, when integrated into community-based tourism (CBT), serves as a strategic pathway for inclusive and sustainable marine ecotourism.
