Abstract

Burning land is one of the most economical ways to clear the lands. Besides that, people in West Kalimantan have the Gawai Serentak tradition, which is a tradition of preparing for the planting season by clearing land through burning. During the dry season, this culture of clearing land is very risky for large peatland fires that are difficult to extinguish. The purpose of this community service activity (PPM) is to educate and socialize about clearing and processing of plantation land without burning (PLTB) to the Simpang Kasturi villagers. This activity was attended by 20 participants who were members of fire care community (MPA) and farmer groups, using the lecture method followed by demonstrations of light fire extinguishers (APAR) and hand tractors usage. In this activity, APAR and hand tractor were also distributed. Monitoring and evaluation of activities is carried out throughout the activity through Two-way discussions, pretest and posttest about the understanding of the lecture material and demonstrations conducted. Referring to the results of the pretest and posttest, the level of public understanding of the causes of peatland forest fires that are difficult to extinguish, effective efforts to control forest fires, sanctions for clearing land by burning, as well as how to use fire extinguishers and hand tractors, indicate improvement.

Abstract

Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) is a procedure used to map respondents' perceptions or preferences, often utilizing two-dimensional visuals. The significance of MDS analysis lies in its ability to reveal the proximities between various products, which can serve as a foundation for determining the best strategies for market survival. In this study, the proximities of four instant coffee brands (Kopi Gadjah, Kopi Kapten, Kopi Neo, Kopi Obor) were analyzed. The objectives of this study were: 1) To determine the positioning or competitive market position among the four instant coffee products based on students' perceptions when considering a purchase of instant coffee, and 2) To identify the most superior instant coffee among the four according to student perceptions. This research used a survey method and was analyzed quantitatively. The sampling was carried out using the purposive sampling method, with 42 students from the State Polytechnic of Pontianak as the sample. The MDS method was employed to determine the position of each instant coffee brand. The results of the MDS an  alysis indicated that the distance between Kopi Kapten and Kopi Obor was close, assuming that respondents perceived these two brands to have many similarities. If the proximity of the instant coffee brands reflects the level of competition, Kopi Kapten and Kopi Obor exhibited a high level of competition. In contrast, Kopi Gadjah and Kopi Neo did not directly compete with Kopi Kapten or Kopi Obor. Based on proximity to product attributes, Kopi Gadjah was identified as the most superior instant coffee among the four brands.

Abstract

This research explores both the structural behavior and environmental relevance of sidewalk and deck slab components in composite steel-concrete bridge systems, emphasizing principles of sustainability and resilience to climate change. The focus was placed on the structural planning of the Palempay 5 Bridge, a Class A bridge located in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, which features reinforced concrete for both pedestrian pathways and vehicle lanes. The design follows key Indonesian standards, including SNI 1725:2016 for bridge loading, SNI T-12-2004 for concrete bridge structures, and SNI 2847:2013 for general concrete design. Using SAP2000, the bridge components were analyzed under multiple loading scenarios such as dead loads, live loads, pedestrian impact, and environmental factors like wind and thermal variation. The reinforcement was designed to maximize efficiency while ensuring structural integrity and durability. The analysis demonstrated that a sidewalk thickness of 50 cm and a deck slab thickness of 20 cm, reinforced with D16 and D13 bars, provided sufficient strength and serviceability. Furthermore, the bridge elements were shown to perform effectively under environmental stresses, aligning with climate-resilient design principles. This study contributes to the development of environmentally conscious infrastructure by combining optimized structural design with ecological considerations. It offers practical insight for civil engineers seeking to implement designs that reduce material consumption, lower carbon emissions, and enhance durability in the face of environmental change.
