Abstract

Milkfish is one of the main commodities in the field of fishery and is known to be the most cultivated. One of the important’s factors to the success of milkfish cultivation is feed availability, both quality and quantity. Feed quality is an important aspect that must be fulfilled because of its relation to nutrients required for the fish growth. Azolla pinnata has a good potential that can be used as an additional ingredient for the fish growth because of its protein-rich content. This study is aimed to examine the effect of Azolla pinnata powder feed on growth of milkfish (length and body weight). This research was conducted in May – July 2017 at Aquatic Animal Health Management Laboratory, Center of Brackish Water Aquaculture of Jepara. The research design used is a Complete Randomized Design (CRD), using five treatments with different concentrations of Azolla pinnata powder, i.e. 0% as control, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. Each treatments consist of three repeatitions. The parameters observed were milkfish growth (length and body weight) and dissolved oxygen (DO). Data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) method. If the data showing significant differences it will be continued with Least Significance Different (LSD) test. The results showed that the administration of Azolla pinnata powder on the feed significantly influenced the growth (lenght and body weight) of milkfish. The most optimal and efficient feed composition for milkfish growth is done by feeding 40% of Azolla pinnata powder. The overall dissolved oxygen (DO) is still in suitable condition for the cultivation of milkfish. Key Words :  Azolla pinnata, dissolved oxygen, feed nutrition, milkfish

Abstract

Ulva lactuca is a source of structurally diverse and highly valuable bioactive compounds. Its chemical composition includes carbohydrates (up to 60%), proteins (10% - 47%), lipids (1% - 3%), and bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, which exhibit antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. Ulvan, a heteropolysaccharide present in its cell walls, is known for its antiviral, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties.  This study aims to identify the potential of Ulva lactuca as a source of nutrition and health benefits. The research is descriptive-exploratory, aiming to analyze the phytochemical composition and total polysaccharides in Ulva lactuca from Ujung Genteng Beach, Sukabumi, West Java, and Lombok Beach, West Nusa Tenggara. The results indicate that the highest flavonoid content was found in the Ulva lactuca extract from Sukabumi, measuring 3.95 mg/L, compared to 3.686 mg/L in Ulva lactuca from Lombok. The alkaloid content in Ulva lactuca from Lombok was 26.53 mg/L, while in Ulva lactuca from Sukabumi, it was 24.78 mg/L. The highest tannin content was found in Ulva lactuca from Lombok at 9.87 mg/L, compared to 3.53 mg/L in Ulva lactuca from Sukabumi. The polysaccharide content in Ulva lactuca from Sukabumi was 50.83 mg/L, whereas it was 38.165 mg/L in Ulva lactuca from Lombok. Proximate analysis showed that Ulva lactuca from Lombok had a higher protein content (20.44%) compared to that from Sukabumi (15.47%).

Abstract

Tilapia is one of the commodities favored by the community and is widely cultivated in Indonesia. At this time, the development of tilapia cultivation has entered the location of marine and brackish waters, known as saline tilapia. The increase in tilapia cultivation has increased feed production, so the price of raw materials, especially fish oil, has increased. The source of crude fat that is usually used in feed formulations is fish oil, but the availability of fish oil is limited, so the price is increasing. One of the alternatives that can replace fish oil is maggot oil. Maggot contains 42-48% lipids. The purpose of this study is to find the effect of giving maggot oil on the growth and survival of saline tilapia. The method used was experimental, with a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and three replications. The treatments tested were treatment A (control), B (1.5 ml of maggot oil), C (2 ml of maggot oil), D (2.5 ml of maggot oil)) on 100 grams of feed. The saline tilapia used was 1.4-1.9 grams/head. The fish were reared for 30 days in 15-liter volume containers, ten fish density, and were fed three times a day. The results showed that fish oil substitution using maggot oil (H. illucens) significantly affected FUE, SGR, absolute weight, FCR, and SR of saline tilapia. The best dose of maggot oil was found in treatment B with a dose of 1.5 ml/100 grams of feed capable of producing FUE (88.783.80%), SGR (7.980.23%/day), absolute weight (41 .17 4.57gram), FCR (1.130.05), and SR (1000.00%).Keywords:BSFBrackish waterSGRProductionWeight
