Abstract

Inflammation is a protective process against tissue injury caused by infection, trauma, or chemicals. The mechanism of inflammation starts from a stimulus that will cause cell damage, these cells will release several phospholipids, one of which is arachidonic acid. Free arachidonic acid will be activated by cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes. This enzyme converts arachidonic acid into an unstable form which is further metabolized to leukotrienes, prostaglandins, prostacyclin, and thromboxane. One of the natural medicines used as an inflammatory treatment is jamblang leaf, because there are flavonoids that can inhibit cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory effect and the best dose of jamblang leaf extract. The method used was 1% carrageenan induction and a digital plethysmometer to measure the volume of inflammation on the soles of the test animals' feet. The test animals used were 25 mice divided into 5 treatment groups, each group consisting of 5 mice. The treatment group consisted of: negative control of 1% Na-CMC, positive control of Diclofenac Sodium 0.182 mg/20 g BW, dose 1 of jamblang leaf extract 10 mg/20 g BW, dose 2: 15 mg/20 g BW and dose 3: 20 mg/kg 20 g BB. The results showed that all doses of jamblang leaf extract had an anti-inflammatory effect and dose 3 was the best dose that reduced the volume of inflammation.

Abstract

Wound is skin tissue damage due to trauma from a sharp object.  Kecombrang flower extract is known to be effective in speeding up the healing of wounds because it contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroids. The leaves and stems also contain these compounds, so this research was conducted to see the difference in the potential activity of the wound healing process of the kecombrang plant on the time of wound healing. Natural ingredient extracts are wound healing agents that can fight infection and speed up wound healing. This study used 5 treatment groups consisting of control (-) distilled water, control (+) Povidone Iodine 10 %, leaf extract 10 %, flower extract 10 %, and stem extract 10 %. The parameters observed were the length of the wound and the condition of the wound until the wound healed. The obtained data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA for complately randomized factorial designed. The results of the research show that extracts of kecombrang leaves, flowers, and stems have activity in accelerating the healing process of cut wounds and produce different effects on healing time. Wound healing time for leaf extract is 12 days, flower extract and stem extract is 10 days. The conclusion of this study shows that there is a very real difference in wound healing from treatment with the best treatment for wound healing is the flower extract with highest healing score of 6.42.

Abstract

Antiplatelets can inhibit platelets aggregation and have been used in prevention and treatment the trombotic desease. Binahong leaves, ginger dan turmeric have antiplatelets activity. The mixture of these plants are expected to increase the antiplatelets potency. This study aimed to determine the optimum dose of ethanol extracts of binahong leaves, ginger dan turmeric as antiplatelets agent. The antiplatelets testing were carried out by in vivo method using parameter of bleeding and coagulation time. The testing solutions were administered orally once a day for 8 days. There were 7 treatment groups consist of positive control (Acetosal 0.29mg/20gBW), negative control (CMC-Na 0.5%), binahong 10mg/20gBW, mixture 1 of binahong:ginger:turmeric (5:0.5:1mg/20gBW), mixture 2 (10:0.5:1mg/20gBW), mixture 3 (5:1:1mg/20gBW), and mixture 4 (5:0.5:2mg/20gBW). The bleeding and coagulation time were determined at 0, 3rd, 6th and 9th day. The bleeding time was determined by injuring mice tail, the blood that comes out were absorbed with absorption paper. From the first bleeding time until stopped was calculated as bleeding time. The coagulation time was determined by observing the formation of fibrin thread in the broken capillary pipe. The blood from the end tail were absorbed with capillary pipe, and then was broken every 15 seconds. The antiplatelets activity in mice with bleeding time parameter showed that mixture 3 was more effective at 3rd day with an increased of 16.60%, than the positive control group (3.92%). The coagulation time parameter showed that the binahong group was more effective at 9th day with an increased of 203.55%, than the positive control group (89.71%). The mixture of binahong, ginger, and turmeric were the most effective in increasing bleeding time, whereas binahong was the most effective in increasing coagulation time.
