Abstract

A linkage between Muslim youths and societal development is obvious and enduring since the time of the first Prophet on earth, Adam (A.S.). This interaction is connected symbiotically and, furthermore, one depends on the other for its sustenance. Therefore, the role of Muslim youths in the development of Nasarawa State cannot be ignored. The wheels of the development of a country rest on the shoulders of the youths. Consequently, the youths in Nasarawa State are the engine of the growth and development because they provide the labor force for the production of goods and services to take effect in the development of the state. Thus, the role of Muslim youths in the development of Nasarawa State is crucial for the entire developmental processes and aspirations of the whole society.  In addition, the productive youths are acknowledged as the cornerstone for societal rejuvenation. Keywords:Youth, Social Development, Nasawara State

Abstract

The speedy advancement in internet technology has revolutionized the use of social media platforms as ways of communication globally. This paper examines the proliferations social media sites in the world and its use among the Muslims.  Unlike traditional media, most of internet based means of social interactions are user-generated. It allows the individual to determine the content of the message with or without censorship or regulation. The liberty to open an account with any site of choice and the freedom it entails, lured some Muslims to surf social media without recourse to or in line with the basic tenets of Islamic teachings.  The paper is a qualitative method where In-Depth Interviews were conducted with seasoned social users.  The researchers purposively selected three participants for the study and interview because they are Muslims and possessed the knowledge about the phenomenon investigated. Some of the findings of the study revealed that some Muslims finds it convenient to share or post unsubstantiated religious messages on social media. Similarly, it has paved way for increasing number of untrained social media preachers. This makes it a delicate tool at the disposal of some of Muslim to fan antagonism among Muslim of creeds and sects in Nigeria. The article concludes that social media is a double-edged sword which side-effects as apparent when Muslim user do not resort to the teachings of Islam as the guiding principle when surfing the social media sites. The unfettered user-generated content of social media in 21st century enables the users to operate outside the ambit of the Islamic convention of social interactions.

Abstract

The paper has examines what is considered dual contributions of the internet based medium of communication in Da’wah. These platforms for social interaction and communication have become medium of spreading Islamic messages by Islamic scholars. The objective of the paper is to analyze how internet related mane of communications and interaction have aided Da’wah. The researchers adopted an explanatory type of research whose aim is to explain a phenomenon of choice.  The researchers sourced data from the secondary sources and analyzed them. It is on the basis of such that, the findings of this research have portrayed that social media as medium of social interaction have been adopted as tools for Da’wah which learned Islamic scholars are using to propagate Islam and its teachings. However, the outcomes confirmed that social media have provided a fruitful ground for the germination of cyber space Islamic scholars, people who are not learned but share texts, video and audio containing distorted and misleading information. This has challenged the age long Islamic practice in Islam where any issues regarding Islamic Da’wah and Fatwa are exclusively for the learned Islamic Scholars. The study in addition reveal that what is obtainable on the social media now is, cyber scholars and quick to post or comment on issues that are exclusive the purview of Islamic scholars.

Abstract

Social media have become part of the individual and public lifestyles of Muslims globally. The paper examined the utilization of social media platform such as Facebook and YouTube as an available option to conduct Virtual Da’wah Ramadan lectures on the commentary of the Glorious Qur’an and Ta’aleem in Northern Nigeria and this was done with the sampled of scholars from the three zones in Northern Nigeria, i.e. North-West, North-Central and North-East. The paper adopts the use of secondary data as method of data collection where In-depth survey of the various pages/channels on social media and participant observation to obtain data. The researchers purposively sampled nine scholars for the study and survey was carried out on their various social media pages/channels to ascertain their level of utilization of the technology during the COVID-19 period to teach their followers with the restriction of movement and gathering in places of worship in Nigeria.  Some of the findings of the study revealed that the sampled Muslims scholars finds it convenient to present live programme of their teachings virtually and post video and audio of their Virtual Da’wah Ramadan lectures on the commentary of the Glorious Qur’an and Ta’aleem social media. The research paper concludes Muslim scholars to continue with the utilization of the social media platforms even after the Ramadan and Post-COVID-19 pandemic in carrying out their day to day virtual teachings so that other audience who are not close to their Masjid will benefit from their lectures on the various teachings of Islam.

Abstract

The rapid development of internet technology has transformed how social media platforms are used worldwide for communication. This article focuses on Muslim scholars and the challenges of social media Da'wah focusing on cyberbullying of scholars on social media platforms. The most of the social media-based social interaction tools are user-generated, in contrast to traditional media. It enables the user to control the message's content, with or without restriction or regulation. Some Muslims have been lured to use social media in violation of rules laid down in accordance with fundamental Islamic teachings because of their freedom to sign up for an account on any website of their choice and the freedom it involves. Accordingly, this study has identified some of the behavior of cyberbullying against Muslim scholars on social media and provide solution according to the Islamic teachings. The paper adopted qualitative survey where Interviews were conducted with seasoned social users. Some of the findings of the study revealed that Muslim scholars faces challenge cyberbullying in the course of carrying out Da'wah on social media. The paper’s conclusion is that in order to create a more peaceful and safer digital environment, social media users should communicate with good morals and manners, especially on online forums.

Abstract

Social media platforms can be an effective tool for disseminating Qur’anic teachings among contemporary Muslims, as they provide a wide-reaching and accessible means of communication. In fact, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube have millions of users worldwide, including a significant number of Muslims. This, perhaps makes it possible to disseminate Qur’anic teachings to a wide audience quickly and easily, regardless of geographical location and language barrier. It thus provides accessibility to individuals with diverse backgrounds and abilities, making Qur’anic teachings accessible and available to a wide range of people at their fingertips. Social media as a means of disseminating knowledge and information that are vital for societal growth create a sense of virtual community among Muslims and enable them to connect and learn from each other, particularly on Qur’anic teachings. It is in line with this submission that this discusses the effectiveness of social media platforms in disseminating Qur’anic teachings among contemporary Muslims. Accordingly, this study has identified some of the social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram as the channels that are utilised for the dissemination of Qur’anic teachings in the cyber-world. The paper adopted qualitative survey where Interviews were conducted with seasoned social users. The researchers purposively selected seven participants for the study because they are Muslims and possessed the knowledge about the phenomenon investigated. Some of the findings of the study revealed that social media are effective channels for the dissemination Qur’anic teaching to the contemporary world.

Abstract

The Glorious Qur’an, as the central religious text of Islam addresses various aspects of human life and provides guidance for personal and societal development. It also outlines the moral excellence for individuals and communities, focusing on spiritual, moral and social dimensions. The Glorious Qur’an recognizes the challenges faced by humanity and encourages efforts towards global human development. It however harps on the cultivation of moral virtues and ethical behavior thereby promoting justice, honesty, compassion, humility, patience and generosity. Principles of social justice and equality and the calls for eradication of discrimination based on race, gender as well as social status have aptly been captured in a plethora of Qur’anic verses. It is thus in line with this backdrop that this article intends to assess the impact of Qur’anic moral excellence on the lives of Muslim society towards human moral development. However, to achieve the objectives of the research, the article attempts to answer some basic questions. How did the Qur’an emphasize the need for social cohesion and working together to address societal challenges? What efforts are necessary for enhancing human moral development? What are the contributing factors toward promoting justice, peace and well-being of human society? What are the principles the Qur’an provides for effective navigation towards a better future for all? The article adopts analytical methodology.
