Abstract

This research explores how cultural and moral values are represented in the local Madurese film Sangkolan Kona using a semiotic analysis approach. The growing role of regional films in shaping cultural identity and promoting local wisdom becomes a critical context for this study. The objective is to uncover the embedded signs and symbols that convey cultural norms, ethical values, and social messages within the narrative and visual elements of the film. This qualitative research employs Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, focusing on denotation, connotation, and myth to decode the layers of meaning presented in selected scenes and dialogues. Data were collected through documentation and textual analysis of the film, followed by interpretative categorization. The findings reveal that Sangkolan Kona contains strong representations of Madurese values such as familial loyalty, communal solidarity, respect for elders, and moral accountability, expressed through culturally specific signs like traditional attire, local rituals, and idiomatic expressions. These elements not only construct a distinctive cultural identity but also promote ethical reflection among audiences. The study concludes that regional films like Sangkolan Kona serve as effective communicative tools in preserving cultural heritage and transmitting moral values across generations.

Abstract

The effective communication training at Muhammadiyah Orphanage in Sumenep aims to develop communication skills essential for the children of the orphanage as preparation to become future leaders. In the context of leadership development, communication is a key element in building healthy relationships, enhancing self-confidence, and preparing them to face social challenges. The objective of this activity is to train participants in verbal and nonverbal communication skills, as well as improve public speaking and active listening abilities. The method used in this training incorporates communication theory, complemented by group simulations, role-playing, and skill evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the training show a significant improvement in participants' communication abilities, with notable improvements in self-confidence and public speaking skills. The conclusion of this activity is that effective communication training can be an effective tool for developing communication-based leadership, which can help orphanage children lead themselves and others more effectively. This training also provides a strong foundation for future follow-up training programs.ABSTRAKPelatihan komunikasi efektif di Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Sumenep bertujuan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan komunikasi yang diperlukan bagi anak-anak panti sebagai bekal untuk menjadi pemimpin masa depan. Dalam konteks pengembangan kepemimpinan, komunikasi menjadi kunci utama dalam membangun hubungan yang sehat, meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, serta mempersiapkan mereka untuk menghadapi tantangan sosial. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk melatih peserta dalam keterampilan komunikasi verbal dan nonverbal, serta meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara di depan umum dan mendengarkan aktif. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini melibatkan teori komunikasi efektif, dilengkapi dengan simulasi kelompok, role play, dan evaluasi keterampilan melalui pre-test dan post-test. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan komunikasi peserta, dengan beberapa aspek utama yang diperbaiki termasuk kepercayaan diri dan keterampilan berbicara di depan umum. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini adalah bahwa pelatihan komunikasi efektif dapat menjadi sarana yang efektif untuk mengembangkan kepemimpinan berbasis komunikasi, yang nantinya dapat membantu anak-anak panti asuhan dalam memimpin dirinya sendiri dan orang lain dengan lebih baik. Pelatihan ini juga memberikan dasar yang kuat untuk program pelatihan lanjutan di masa mendatang.

Abstract

Bangkalan Regency is one of the strategic salt-producing regions on Madura Island, with great potential to support national salt resilience. However, salt farmers in this area still face several serious challenges, such as low product quality, limited access to sustainable markets, and weak institutional support for salt farmers. To address these issues, this community service activity was carried out with the main objective of strengthening the capacity of salt farmers through a socialization program on the absorption of local salt. A participatory approach was employed, with the stages of activity including: identifying partner needs, preparing educational materials tailored to local contexts, conducting interactive discussions, and evaluating the impact using pre- and post-activity questionnaires. The socialization program was held in early 2025 in Klampis District, one of the salt production centers in Bangkalan. A total of 20 local salt farmers, consisting of 18 men and 2 women aged between 35–55 years, participated in the activity. The materials presented covered the mechanisms of salt absorption by cooperatives, industrial quality standards, and clean production technologies such as the use of geomembrane liners and closed crystallization systems. Based on the evaluation results, there was a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, supported by high satisfaction scores regarding the quality of the materials and the delivery methods used by the presenters. Participants also showed strong enthusiasm during the discussions. This activity proved effective in enhancing the technical and institutional awareness of salt farmers and encouraging them to adopt more modern, efficient, and market-oriented production systems. It also helped foster a spirit of collaboration toward the self-sufficiency of the local salt industry.ABSTRAKKabupaten Bangkalan merupakan salah satu wilayah strategis penghasil garam rakyat di Pulau Madura yang memiliki potensi besar dalam mendukung ketahanan garam nasional. Namun demikian, para petambak di wilayah ini masih menghadapi sejumlah tantangan serius, seperti rendahnya mutu hasil produksi, terbatasnya akses pasar yang berkelanjutan, serta lemahnya kelembagaan petani garam. Untuk menjawab persoalan tersebut, kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan utama memperkuat kapasitas para petambak melalui sosialisasi penyerapan garam rakyat. Pendekatan yang digunakan bersifat partisipatif, dengan tahapan kegiatan meliputi: identifikasi kebutuhan mitra, penyusunan materi sosialisasi sesuai kebutuhan lokal, pelaksanaan diskusi interaktif, serta evaluasi berbasis kuesioner sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan. Sosialisasi ini dilaksanakan pada awal tahun 2025 di Kecamatan Klampis, salah satu sentra produksi garam di Bangkalan. Sebanyak 20 petambak rakyat, terdiri dari 18 laki-laki dan 2 perempuan dengan rentang usia 35–55 tahun, menjadi peserta kegiatan. Materi yang disampaikan mencakup mekanisme penyerapan garam oleh koperasi, standar mutu industri, serta teknologi produksi bersih seperti penggunaan geomembran dan sistem kristalisasi tertutup. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, terdapat peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan peserta, didukung oleh skor kepuasan peserta yang tinggi terhadap kualitas materi dan metode penyampaian narasumber. Antusiasme peserta juga terlihat selama diskusi berlangsung. Kegiatan ini terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kesadaran teknis dan kelembagaan petani, serta mendorong mereka untuk menerapkan sistem produksi yang lebih modern, efisien, dan berorientasi pasar. Kegiatan ini juga memperkuat semangat kolaboratif menuju kemandirian industri garam rakyat.

Abstract

Background. The marriage of a family with a physical disability, both husband and wife or one of them with a physical disability, is not as easy as a family in a normal married condition. The foundation must be religion, because in Islam, marriage is not only a civil contract but also a matter of worship. The Quran describes the bond between husband and wife as the most sacred and strongest bond. Marriage between a man and a woman and uniting to live as husband and wife in the bond of marriage is one of the characteristics of man since he was first created. Method. The method was carried out using 10 respondents from families with physical disabilities who filled out the questionnaire, including (1) how many years they have been married, (2) how communication has occurred so far, and (3) how communication and support between married couples facilitate disability conditions. Questionnaire fill-ins were processed using SPSS. Conclusion. In realizing a harmonious family despite its limitations, it is not an excuse not to fulfill its roles and obligations as a husband and a wife. It is essential to maintain communication with your partner, accept each other, and work together effectively in carrying out daily routines. Implications. The practical implication is that married couples with disabilities can live in harmony and carry out their roles and obligations as husband and wife well, even with their limitations.

Abstract

Public communication skills and self-confidence are an important part of developing soft skills in adolescents, but remain a challenge for children in orphanages who have limited opportunities to appear in public spaces. Based on these conditions, this community service activity aims to increase the self-confidence of children at the Muhammadiyah Sumenep Orphanage through basic Master of Ceremony (MC) training. This activity was carried out using a qualitative descriptive approach through practice-based training attended by approximately two high school students from the Muhammadiyah Sumenep Orphanage. Three participants were selected as the main subjects for practice in order to obtain a more in-depth observational picture of changes in communication behavior. The results showed that MC training was able to encourage the participants' courage to perform, improve their understanding of the structure of hosting an event, and improve their mastery of intonation and body language, although some participants still needed further training to achieve consistent performance. These findings are descriptive and reflective and show that MC training has the potential to be a strategy for strengthening the confidence of children in orphanages in the context of community service.ABSTRAKKeterampilan komunikasi publik dan kepercayaan diri merupakan bagian penting dari pengembangan soft skill anak remaja, namun masih menjadi tantangan bagi anak panti asuhan yang memiliki keterbatasan kesempatan untuk tampil di ruang publik. Berdasarkan kondisi tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri anak Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Sumenep melalui kegiatan pelatihan dasar Master of Ceremony (MC). Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif melalui pelatihan berbasis praktik yang diikuti oleh sekitar 2 anak Panti Asuhan Muhammmadiyah Sumenep tingkat SMA. Tiga peserta dipilih sebagai subjek praktik utama untuk memperoleh gambaran observasi yang lebih mendalam terhadap perubahan perilaku komunikasi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan MC mampu mendorong keberanian tampil peserta, meningkatkan pemahaman terhadap struktur membawakan acara, serta memperbaiki penguasaan intonasi dan bahasa tubuh, walaupun sebagian peserta masih memerlukan latihan lanjutan untuk mencapai konsistensi performa. Temuan ini bersifat deskriptif dan reflektif dan menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan MC dapat berpotensi menjadi strategi penguatan kepercayaan diri anak panti asuhan dalam konteks pengabdian kepada masyarakat.
