Abstract

The application of protection systems and Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is important to ensure the safe operation of the power system, especially the Solar Power Plant (PLTS). So in this study the authors analysed and evaluated the impact of the application of the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) system on Solar Power Plants (PLTS). By using a protection system for battery voltage, overvoltage and undervoltage protection and load current limitation, to protect electrical equipment connected to the Solar Electric System (PLTS). Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) serves as a transfer medium to the PLN power source if it is detected that the availability of electrical power in the PLTS system is insufficient. The test results show that the protection system applied to the battery can protect the battery's performance in supplying electricity to the electrical load, where if it is indicated that the battery voltage has dropped to the minimum limit set (10 volts), the protection system will automatically cut off the electricity supply from the battery and will be transferred to the electricity supply from PLN through the ATS. If the battery voltage is detected to reach 12 volts, the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) will automatically connect the electricity supply to the PLTS system. The protection system will also protect electrical equipment against Over Voltage, 231 Volts and Under Voltage 198 Volts. If this happens, the electricity supply to the load will automatically be cut off.

Abstract

Several issues with public street lighting are often found and do not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Common problems include uneven spacing between streetlight poles, improper pole heights, poorly organized streetlight installations, and incorrect selection of lamp types and wattages according to the SNI standards. The lack of streetlights on busy road sections results in inefficient operation and discomfort for road users due to inadequate light intensity at the streetlight locations caused by various factors. To address these issues, solutions are needed to improve the existing situation, including energy-saving measures for public street lighting. Some necessary actions include replacing non-compliant streetlights and conducting evaluations by relevant authorities after installation works are completed. The existing condition of streetlights along the Semayang Toll Road shows an average illumination level produced by 150W SON-T lamps of 3.1 lux with light uniformity of 0.0, which does not comply with SNI 7391:2008. Simulation results using Dialux 4.13 software indicate that the average illumination level produced by Philips LED luminaires of 150W is 11 lux with a light uniformity of 0.106 lux, meeting SNI 7391:2008 requirements. Similarly, for Philips LED luminaires of 120W, the average illumination level is 11 lux with a light uniformity of 0.114 lux, thus meeting the standards. Based on the simulation results using Dialux 4.13 software, the use of 120W LED lamps for public street lighting on the Semayang Toll Road can lead to a 20% reduction in electricity consumption.

Abstract

The hybrid power generation system (solar cells and diesel generator) is one of the alternative solutions to the negative impacts of conventional energy systems on ships in Indonesia. The use of this hybrid power generation system can support the development of environmentally friendly ship technology as global warming issues become more widespread. The advantages of implementing a hybrid power generation system include a reduction in fuel consumption by the generator and a simultaneous decrease in emissions from the ship. Choosing a hybrid system with solar power is particularly advantageous in Indonesia due to its abundant sunlight. This study employs technical and economic analytical methods to design a hybrid power generation system (solar cells and diesel generator). Technical and economic analyses are conducted using a tanker ship as the research object, comparing the hybrid power generation system with the conventional system widely used on ships in Indonesia. The research results indicate that the implementation of a hybrid power generation system on tanker ships results in a 15.5% annual fuel consumption saving compared to the use of conventional power generation systems. Therefore, due to the increased investment costs and reduced operational costs in the hybrid power generation system compared to the conventional system, the break-even point can be achieved in 3.69 years or equivalent to a total nominal cost of Rp 23,980,000,000.00 or $1,803,007.52.

Abstract

In various industries, the use of belt conveyors as a means of transporting materials has become very common and crucial. Belt conveyor is a production process equipment used to transport large quantities of materials. However, there are often problems with blocking cement bags on the belt conveyor which causes downtime and reduces operational efficiency. This research aims to optimize the performance of the belt conveyor through the application of a blocking indication sensor system equipped with an interlock to stop the belt conveyor motor automatically when the blocking sensor is detected. The research method consists of the design and installation of limit switch sensors, the integration of indicator light systems, and PLC-based control using ladder diagrams. Testing is carried out for one month to measure its effectiveness. The results show that the application of this sensor has succeeded in reducing downtime by 33.6%. The implementation of this system provides early warning to operators and reduces the risk of further damage, thereby significantly improving operational efficiency. This study concludes that the application of blocking indication sensors on belt conveyors is able to optimize system performance by reducing downtime and accelerating response to operational problems

Abstract

Naturally, plants need water and nutrients that are essential for their growth and development. Therefore, watering the plant must be done regularly every day to keep the plant healthy. If watering is not done in accordance with the required time, the plant will have difficulties in the process of photosynthesis and food production, which can be fatal, including the death of the plant or disruption of its growth process. Many people have difficulty watering plants at the right time due to busyness or ignorance. To solve this problem, an automatic watering system is needed that can be set according to the schedule and allows remote control using a microcontroller. In this study, several components were used, such as the RTC DS3231 to access the time accurately, the YL-69 sensor to detect soil moisture so that if the soil is already moist enough the system will not water. DHT11 to measure the temperature and humidity of the surrounding air, if the soil condition is dry but the temperature is too hot, watering will not be carried out because it can damage the plant. Relays are used to control water pumps. All of these components are integrated in an ESP32 NodeMCU. The system will run water pumps every 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. every day. The test results concluded that the system can work well where this system has the ability to increase efficiency and productivity in the process of watering plants.
