Abstract

The church considers that the Eucharist and the daily life of Christians are an inseparable unity. Active participation in the Eucharist is not limited only to liturgical rituals alone but should also be reflected in the daily lives of Christians. In this study, the author aims to examine the significance of the Eucharist as lived by the faithful in receiving the body of Christ in everyday life. This study was conducted using quantitative methods to answer the research question: Does receiving the body of Christ help the faithful realize their faith in everyday life? Various questions were posed to respondents via Google Form. The results showed that in the Archdiocese of Palembang and the Archdiocese of Makassar, receiving the body of Christ has a significant impact on daily life. This sacrament fosters a sense of solidarity and togetherness among the faithful and even encourages active participation in social activities and community service. Thus, it is hoped that the results of this study will inspire the faithful in other dioceses to better appreciate the meaning of the Eucharist in everyday life.

Abstract

This research focuses on the ecumenical movement within the scope of public and private senior high schools (SMA/SMK) in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. The subjects of this research are Protestant and Catholic Religious Education teachers, identified as initiators of ecumenical encounters. The research topics explored include the teachers' understanding of ecumenism and their role in fostering it through collaboration with Christian and Catholic Spiritual organizations in their respective schools. Drawing on James Fowler's theory of faith development, the study also aimed to evaluate the extent to which this collaboration supports students' faith development in relation to their current stages. The study employed a quantitative data analysis method using questionnaire distribution. The results indicate that the teachers understand the ecumenical movement as a means of promoting brotherhood among Christian students, which is realized through joint activities. This ecumenical movement, while serving as a commendable model, must also be evaluated to achieve the ideal state of students' faith development. Their collaboration should provide a space for sharing experiences and mutual strengthening in the process of faith development toward maturity.

Abstract

This paper explores the motivations and perceptions of God among Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong, focusing on their unique experiences and faith struggles. The study, guided by Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), is based on the narratives of five female migrant workers with 6-12 years of experience in Hong Kong. From our study, compassion is identified as a fundamental motivator for Indonesian migrant workers. The study finds that all respondents maintain a positive God-Image, perceiving God as their Helper, Caregiver, and source of strength. Their faith is identified as a core motivation for survival. The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) is employed to illustrate this approach. Finally, this paper tries to contribute to offering a unique perspective on the lives of Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong, emphasizing the critical roles of compassion, faith, and a positive God-image in their experiences, and promoting a fresh approach to addressing their struggles.

Abstract

Living in diversity requires solidarity in fostering the potential of each element of national life and guarding against policies and actions that marginalize a group or an individual. The purpose of this study is to explore the thoughts of Y.B. Mangunwijaya and Pope Francis regarding solidarity with the poor to find important pillars of living together in diversity. The methods used in this research are literature study and comparative analysis. The ideas of the two figures are described and then comparatively analyzed to find important pillars of solidarity with the poor. The results of this study show that both figures have similar views on the understanding of solidarity based on faith motivation and responses to the context of community life. Solidarity is motivated by faith beliefs to serve the poor.  Solidarity is an act of care to help the poor, defend human dignity and realize social justice in the context of multireligious and multicultural society.
